Thunderbird regularly deletes incoming mail

Hello,
Since I installed Thunderbird on this computer (a good couple of months ago), I've recently noticed that it regularly deletes my messages, and my inbox remains around 30 messages; the same goes for the created folders.
Yet in the settings (right-click on my account > settings > "synchronization & disk space" tab), there are 3 boxes checked:
- "Keep messages...nateur"
- "Synchronize all messages ...age"
- "Do not delete any messages"

Can you please help me? :)

2 smaller issues

Every time I open the email client, I get:
"Do you want to compact message folders to save disk space? The gain will be approximately ... MB.
(checkable box) Always ask before automatically compacting folders"

So compacting them doesn't mean deleting them? Will the attachments remain? Will I still be able to read the messages? etc...

Thank you in advance for your responses

Gus

hello
right click on Inbox -> Properties -> Retention Rules
Enable Do not delete any message

For compacting, look here https://support.mozilla.org/fr/kb/compacter-les-dossiers

Hi.

For your main topic, I have a little idea about it and I will get back to you a bit later.

Otherwise, compacting does not delete messages.

Hello,
The mailbox may be full.
In that case, there's no more room for new entrants...

Hi,
no no, actually there are only 30 messages in my inbox at most.. so I archived them
but my inbox is only a few months old
On the family computer, we can see emails from 2015, so that's not the issue
thanks anyway, and also for your quick replies :D

Hello Cath,

It's probably because your account is set up as POP, a protocol that only retrieves messages from the inbox of the server.

In the account settings / Server settings, there are checkboxes that allow you to configure what result you want to achieve:

- Delete from the server immediately
- Delete after a certain number of days (the number required for the same messages to be read on another device). By default, the value is 14 days.
- Delete when we delete them from Thunderbird
- Never delete

You just have to choose, knowing that the less we leave on the server, the less the emails are available to a hacker who breaks the account's password.

I'm sorry, I've been quite busy lately. Hello.

We can now focus a bit more on your issue. Let's start with the simplest solution.
Can you "backup" Mozilla Thunderbird unless you have anything important in your folders? For this, you can use either MozBackup or Hekasoft Backup & Restore, the latter being preferable.
Next, you will uninstall Thunderbird and then reinstall it. See how that works. Note: use Revo Uninstaller for uninstallation.

How many accounts do you have in Thunderbird?
Which provider are you with: @gmail, @orange, @free (anything else?

See you soon.

Isn't anyone answering the problem? I have the same issue where the "do not delete any messages" box is checked, yet THUNDERBIRD keeps deleting all incoming messages :(

Hello, I just checked and my account is set up as IMAP and not POP? Is that the difference?

Where do you see this box "do not delete any messages"?

In an IMAP account, there is synchronization between the folders of the account on the server and their counterparts on the PC or phone. A message deleted here is deleted there.

If the messages disappear, it's because they are deleted by one of the devices using this account.
What do you use to check this account? Thunderbird on PC? Another device like a phone or tablet? Settings on each device?

What you're describing could correspond to a phone configuration in POP without keeping a copy on the server and an IMAP account in Thunderbird.
If the phone deletes, it's deleted on the server and consequently, it is also deleted on the IMAP account in TB.

Yes, that's it! Before, I used to check my messages on my phone outside, and as soon as I opened Thunderbird, they disappeared from my phone! Now the opposite is happening! They don't get deleted from the phone anymore, but they disappear immediately on the computer?? And I haven't touched anything! Ugh, technology :(

Hello Cath,

"Before I used to check my messages on my phone outdoors"
"Before" what?

Without an answer to my question about the configuration of each piece of equipment, we will stop here!
