I will try with what you indicate, it's a bit crazy, I can use this MSD in my two GPS units without restrictions, but there's no way to add what's on it to my current MSD,
well on the other hand it must be intended to prevent piracy but there are those who will manage to extract it anyway and it annoys me that I can't use what I bought for 200 bucks as I want,
it's not that it doesn't work but not the way I would like...

How do you practice copying and adding new elements?

Do you want to add the old ones to the new map or the other way around?

Have you compared with the new one? Do the files with the same name have the same capacity?

Initially, I started with a simple "copy/paste" as I would do for a Garmin .img map, whether it’s OpenStreetMaps or another kind. With hiking GPS devices, you can even change the title of the map, although even if you put "totoche," it won’t appear like that when you turn on the GPS. The name can be tweaked using appropriate software, which also allows changing certain parameters of the map.

Changing the name simply prevents "overwriting" a map that might already be on the microSD card since the files generated for Garmin GPS originally all have the name "gmapsupp.img."

So, my copy/paste didn’t work since the GPS still indicates "locked maps."

I then used "win32diskimager" thinking that some files were not copied correctly. This software created an image for me, which I then decompressed to put back on a blank microSD card = same result, locked maps. I also copied some .gma files which should be instructions read by the GPS, but nothing better...

Finally, to answer your second question, yes, it would be to add these V5 maps to the OSM or contour lines or municipal boundaries that I already have on the microSD card of my Oregon. I still have space, so I can add them, and either select them more quickly than changing the microSD (in the middle of the woods, super practical!!!) or, once again by tweaking with software (legal of course, following the forum’s charter...), making them "transparent" so that certain ones appear with those selected (such as municipal boundaries or contour lines) and overlap to enrich the map.

But above all, as I mentioned earlier, to back up my original microSD, as these devices don’t last forever and are easily lost...

These various manipulations have not been conclusive so far...
