I bought a Qumox Scaler Converter to watch my old videotapes on a Samsung television that doesn’t have a port, but unfortunately, the videos appear in black and white. I should specify that these tapes are clearly in excellent condition and consist of recordings of TV shows made by myself on a VCR.

I am wondering about this issue. Is it due to the recording conditions - because I was able to view these tapes properly when I had a TV with a SCART socket - or to the converter? I notice that prices range from €15-20 (mine) to about a hundred euros: do these price differences correspond to differences in quality?

A big thank you to everyone who can shed some light on this.

Good evening,

Thank you for your response. I must say that I was unaware of the existence of a different SECAM L from SECAM (but I'm almost illiterate in this area!). The problem is that it's not always easy to know the technical specifications of these different converters in order to compare them (unlike the one you mentioned with a good color reproduction).

One detail that might be interesting: I found a commercially available cassette that was given to me, and the color comes through. It's not amazing, but it would already be great if I could achieve a similar result with my own recordings.
