Hello
From my old MAC, 1 TB hard drive, using 400 GB, I want to transfer to my new MAC, 250 GB SSD
1 - apparently the "restore" function of Time Machine no longer works?
2 - with Migration Assistant, from my TM backup to the new MAC, how can I perform a partial reintegration?
Thank you and have a good day

OS X High Sierra 10.13.4
MBP 15 inches
The MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, mid-2015)
2.2 GHz Intel Core i7
Memory 16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
Thank you. Françoise

Hello Françoise,
When you first set up your new and empty Mac, you should have received a prompt to recover your data from an existing backup.
You can still do this by following this information:
https://support.apple.com/fr-fr/HT204350
You can also "Enter Time Machine" and choose what to restore, but you must first reassign your current backup to your new Mac.
The procedure for that:
- connect your Time Machine drive to the new Mac
- open System Preferences,
- designate this drive as your Time Machine drive, but disable automatic backup
- open the Backup.backupsdb file
- you should see a folder named after the old Mac
- Open Terminal located in Applications / Utilities
- in the Terminal window, paste this command
sudo tmutil inheritbackup
- type a space
- drag and drop into the Terminal window the folder named after your old Mac found in the Backup.backupsdb folder of your Time Machine drive
- validate.
- enter your Admin password if prompted
Normally, at this stage, it should be fine.
PS: From System Preferences / Time Machine, remember to check the box to have the Time Machine icon in the menu bar
In the Finder menu bar, from the Time Machine icon, you should now have the option "Back Up Now" or "Enter Time Machine" to restore folders.
Sincerely

Always indicate your system configuration completely - exact model of computer, exact OS version.
