My images are cropped.

Hello,

I am using PowerPoint 2016.

In a blank layout, I create a placeholder for an image.
Then when I create a slide based on this layout and insert an image into that placeholder, the image is cropped so it doesn't exceed that space.
I would like the image to be fully visible even if it means being reduced and not filling the entire placeholder.

How can I do this?

Thank you.

Configuration: W10 laptop
Firefox
Office 365 (2016)

    Hello,

The image takes the place of your space without distortion. Therefore, it may be cropped.

To simplify, imagine an image space in landscape format. You insert a portrait format image. If the photo is not cropped, there are two solutions:
    - either the photo fits the height of your space, leaving a large white area in the space,
    - or the photo fills the entire space without being cropped, and thus it is distorted in width.

As a result, Microsoft's stance is to never distort a photo by default, so if the proportions of the photo differ from those of the space, the photo will be cropped but will fill the space.

    Hello m@rina and thank you.

Is there no way to choose the other option:
"either the photo fits the height of your space, leaving a large portion white in the area"

      Hello,

The answer is no. PowerPoint is the Office app with the fewest configuration options.
Only a macro can solve the problem, if it’s an issue you encounter frequently, especially in the case of a template to be distributed.

    Hello,

crop your image with the capture tool and insert it into your presentation by clicking paste > special paste > Bitmap. You will lose a bit of quality but your image will not be cropped.
