No more WIFI

Hello everyone,

Oh geniuses of computer science... I really need help... Please enlighten me!

For your information, my desktop PC is an HP (running Windows 10, 64-bit)

So here it is, I go on my desktop, relaxed and in a good mood... And then... no wifi network! I can't even find, in the lower right corner, the icon with the bars that used to indicate wifi... instead, there's a computer with a plug and a red cross... And when I click on it, it suggests connecting an ethernet cable, but the wifi has disappeared :o

I don’t want an ethernet cable, I want my wifi back! It's working on my laptop, so the problem is with my PC...

So I scoured all the forums, quite a few people were in my situation, I followed all the advice given by users, but unfortunately it didn’t work.
I followed the advice:
- I tried to uninstall my antivirus (McAfee), but I couldn't do it so I completely removed it. Still no wifi...
- I reinstalled the WIFI driver (LAN) with HP recovery manager: still no wifi
- I did a system restore, I restored to before an update from 4 days ago when my wifi was still working...
The restoration didn't work because of my antivirus software (even though it was deleted, I don’t understand...), so I did it in safe mode and it worked... but still no wifi!

And now, I’m ready to give up this virtual battle, so my last hope: I’m posting my problem on this forum.

Does anyone have a flash of genius? Even a spark, I’ll take it...

Thank you for your interest,

Best regards,

A desperate internet user

Hi,
do you see a wifi card in the device manager?
If you don't see one, it's better to prepare to invest in a wifi/usb adapter

Hello,

Thank you very much for your response.

So I don't see a LAN in my network adapters (it seems to me that this is the Wi-Fi card), so I indeed think it is missing.

I only see:
Realtek PCle GBE Family Controller
WAN Miniport (IKEv2)
WAN Miniport (IP)
WAN Miniport (IPv6)
WAN Miniport (L2TP)
WAN Miniport (Network Monitor)
WAN Miniport (PPPOE)
WAN Miniport (PPTP)
WAN Miniport (SSTP)

Hi, check the HP website to see what they offer for network drivers

Here I am again :)

So, I borrowed a USB wifi adapter, my PC detects it, but it doesn't work, a red cross appears next to it. It says "device not started, startup issue". It appears in my network adapters, but there's an orange icon on it...

Hi

Did you install the driver for your USB Wi-Fi adapter?

Wasn't there a CD with this USB Wi-Fi adapter?

Check its "status" in the device manager

See you later

Indeed, I downloaded the Wi-Fi adapter driver from the internet, put it on a USB stick, and installed it on the computer, and MIRACLE! It finally works! I'm thrilled!

Thank you all for your help, I would have never found this on my own, thank you thank you thank you!!

Good evening,

Have you tried updating the Wi-Fi card drivers?
Have you tried disabling your firewall?

Hello,

Thank you for getting back to me :)

So I reinstalled the LAN driver but I haven’t updated the drivers... I’m not very good with computers, do you know how I should go about it without internet?

And my McAfee network firewall is disabled, there’s a red cross in front of “firewall and network protection”, otherwise the rest seems active (small green sign): “virus and threat protection”, and “app and browser control”
