BIOS not saving changes

Hello,

I'm trying to reinstall Ubuntu on my laptop (Acer Aspire E5 511).
I created a bootable USB drive and a Ubuntu CD (both of which work).

The problem is that I can't boot from either the USB or the CD; when I go to the boot menu (F12) at startup, the USB or CD option is not present.

To solve this problem, I went into the BIOS (F2): I tried changing the boot order, I also tried disabling SECURE BOOT,
and I also tried changing the boot mode from UEFI to LEGACY.
But nothing worked.

I noticed that every time I modified the boot settings in the BIOS (and exited saving!), the next time I accessed the BIOS, none of the changes I made were saved.

I tried changing the machine's time in the BIOS (then exiting saving), and when I returned to the BIOS, the time change was saved.
So I don't think it's the CMOS battery.

Does anyone have an idea of how to solve my problem?

    Hello,
when I go into the boot menu (F12) at startup, the key or CD option is not present.

This is because the UEFI did not recognize it as bootable.
For the UEFI to recognize it, there needs to be an EFI folder on it with everything required inside. Check that you have a 64-bit version because 32-bit versions are not compatible with UEFI boot.

With Ubuntu, there is no need to disable secure boot.
If your disk is in GPT format, you normally need to install in EFI mode.

As for your BIOS not saving changes, I think it's the CMOS battery that is dead: the changes are lost as soon as you restart the PC.

My key and my CD work (I tested them on another computer) and are indeed 64-bit

if the CMOS battery were dead, the time setting should not be saved, yet that is the case...

(I tested them on another computer)
With a boot in EFI mode? That is to say, with a GRUB screen and not Syslinux...

In the BIOS, have you tried reloading the default settings?

Look at the secure boot level... it's what can cause these symptoms...!
