Refusal to open attached file

Hello,
For some time now, I have been experiencing a problem.
Not with all attached files, but with some (always in Word), Gmail refuses to open them and suggests other applications like downloading to open them; which is much more time-consuming.
Question: where does this problem come from? And how can I fix it?
I have already clicked on reset in Gmail settings.

    Hello,

    Gmail has nothing to do with this issue!

    The problem lies either with the program used to access it (browser or dedicated application) or with the OS.

      My browser is Chrome, which you think might not be working well.
      So should I reinstall it after uninstalling it?

      No, with Chrome you cannot open a file directly; you have to download it.
      But maybe you didn't mean "refuses to open them" but "refuses to display them."
      In that case, it's usually when the format is not recognized.

      In response to your explanation, I am continuing to decipher the encountered problem.
      Here is the message I see when I click on the small blue rectangle to the right of the attachment to view it.
      On a black background: " sorry, a problem occurred while previewing the document."
      Then I am offered to download it via word or through googledrive docs and other applications... Opening takes much longer.
      However, I notice that for the past few days, this problem has been less frequent.
