Hello,
Since yesterday, I have been desperately trying to play a video file (fireplace) on my Sony Bravia 32ex402 TV.
I downloaded it (with the help of a member of the site) onto a USB stick. The key format is FAT 32, in MP4 format, and the file is 3.08 GB, as I saw that it shouldn't exceed 5 GB. (On this subject, again with help, I had to reformat my key.)
I am using 720 resolution for the file, and the TV tells me unsupported resolution! I had previously tried 1080, but playback was impossible. I just updated my TV, but nothing changes!! I don't understand anything anymore, and it's frustrating because I'm going in circles. I can play the file on my PC when I put the stick in my TV; the file appears just fine, but...... nothing except this annoying message.
Does anyone have THE miracle solution?? Can someone explain to me (clearly because I'm not tech-savvy....!) what is going on?

Oh yes, I should add that I cannot do it live since my TV does not connect through the box, so it's not connected.

I just wanted to add my two cents because this TV model spoke to me ;-)

Indeed, the KDL-32EX402 is a sibling of my KDL-40BX400; they both have the same technical specifications and the same remote control RM-ED022.

I just did a test with a Sandisk Cruzer Glide 32 Gb USB stick formatted in FAT32; I downloaded 3 movies (Avatar, Captain America, and The Avengers) and one episode of a series (Episode 4 from Season 7 of Game of Thrones at random) in MP4.

- AVATAR: Resolution 320 x 240; Size 565 MB; Duration 2h58min08sec; Frame rate 15 frames/sec; Data rate 384 Kbits/sec; Total bitrate (in bits) 442 Kbits/sec; Channels 2 (AAC stereo); Audio sample rate 22 KHz.

This movie plays on my TV, but the display is very small, and even pressing the "Screen Mode (zoom)" button on the remote, the quality is poor, but it works.

- CAPTAIN AMERICA: Resolution 640 x 272; Size 624 MB; Duration 2h04min09sec; Frame rate 23 frames/sec; Data rate 561 Kbits/sec; Total bitrate (in bits) 697 Kbits/sec; Channels 2 (AAC stereo); Audio sample rate 48 KHz.

This movie does not play, "Playback not available" appears on my TV screen.

THE AVENGERS: Resolution 480 x 272; Size 565 MB; Duration 2h17min07sec; Frame rate 25 frames/sec; Data rate 382 Kbits/sec; Total bitrate (in bits) 508 Kbits/sec; Channels 2 (AAC stereo); Audio sample rate 44 KHz.

This movie plays, but again the image is too small, and you have to press the "Screen Mode (zoom)" button on the remote; then, we have full screen, but the quality is not great—you can easily see the pixels.

EPISODE 4 OF SEASON 7 OF GAME OF THRONES: Resolution 640 x 360; Size 291 MB; Duration 0h52min06sec; Frame rate 25 frames/sec; Data rate 652 Kbits/sec; Total bitrate (in bits) 778 Kbits/sec; Channels 2 (AAC stereo); Audio sample rate 48 KHz.

This episode plays without any problem and without needing to use the "Screen Mode (zoom)" button; the picture quality is acceptable.

So, given the video quality of this format, why not download directly in .AVI container and avoid having this image quality issue? Admittedly, the files are bigger, but not by much—a movie in .AVI (MP3 or AAC stereo) is about +/- 700 MB and is supported by the TV without any issues.

Now, what surprises me in the request statement is that this unreadable file is 3.08 GB and is in 720p. From what I've seen, the sizes of files in MP4 do not exceed 650 MB.

Maryleg, are you sure it's an MP4 file? I think it's probably an MKV file, and if it's not supported, that's normal because our TVs (released in February 2010 for mine and March 2010 for yours) do not support this type of container.

The firmware update of the TV has been completely useless.

To give you an example, the movie EXTRACTION in AVI container (stereo): Resolution 720 x 400; Size 700 MB; Duration 1h46min04sec; Frame rate 23 frames/sec; Data rate 795 Kbits/sec; Total bitrate (in bits) 923 Kbits/sec; Channels 2 (MP3 stereo); Audio sample rate 48 KHz, and this movie plays perfectly on my TV via a USB stick without needing to touch anything.

So, don't stress yourself over wanting to use MP4 files; just use .AVI files directly, and you won't have all these issues, no more conversion hassles, just plug the stick into the TV's USB port and simply play the file.

That's what comes from personal experience; now you can do what you want with it ;-)

Thank you for adding your insight; it’s important that everyone's experience benefits others, after all, that’s the purpose of the forum, you could say!! lol! It’s true that with the same TV or at least the same specifications, you know what you’re talking about. The problem is that I haven’t found an avi file for this video!
  And to answer your question, yes, checking, the file is indeed in mp4, that’s how it is given; I noticed that I cannot change the resolution in the converter, which should be normal.... Anyway, with all this data, I will have to seriously consider the issue. I've been going around in circles for several days, it’s true that it’s not easy..... and especially since I’m not an expert.. especially...

  It's just a simple fireplace video that I wanted to set up for New Year's Eve... but there you go... it's a fail! Maybe next year! I'll send you the link if you want... well, I just did an experiment with the famous file, referring to what you said earlier, maximum resolution 360p, it WORKS! We're making progress! But the image is small... but at least it's working now!!

Try to convert it to a lower resolution, like 500 something, using the software "media coder"; or try to set the TV to a resolution of 720...

  Hello Quentin. Thank you for your reply. I did a test. I watched a video I had made, it was in 720x420 resolution, and it worked well, but the format was different. I'm not sure I can adjust the resolution on the TV; in any case, I didn't see anything that could do it.

Hello, your notice provides the formats supported by your TV, such as FAT32 or NTFS: MPEG2, MPEG4, JPEG, etc.
Your MP4 file is not guaranteed to be compatible with your TV as it may have been compiled with different codecs.
Type: codec container bitrate on the web for explanations; follow Quentin's advice to check with MediaCoder.
The resolution 720 or 1080 does not affect compatibility, as the TV adjusts accordingly.

  Thank you for your response. I converted it to AVI, I know it works since I watched a video in AVI, but now it tells me that the speed is not right... so I don't know what to set... by default it was 1000kbps.

    I never changed the speed so I don't know, but you can also try in MP4 or MKV, otherwise plug a USB stick into the box

If that's the case, you can download it via Télécharger Vidéos Youtube.com and choose the following:

.mp4 360p 18 - 640x360 (medium)

By taking these download criteria, the video will play perfectly on your TV, I tested it and the display is perfect on my TV.
The following image is clickable for enlargement to its actual size.

And from now on, in MP4, you shouldn't exceed 360p quality.
