Good evening,

I just purchased a laptop without an OS :)
I would like to install Windows 10. I retrieved Windows 10 from Cdiscount in a downloadable version.

How do I install Windows?
I don't have a CD reader, so I will have to use a USB flash drive?
On which disk should I install it (HDD or SSD)?

Is it complicated?

Thank you in advance for your answers

Julien

Hi,

Follow this tutorial that explains how to install Windows 10: how to install Windows 10.
All steps are provided from A to Z with tips at the end to secure Windows 10.

The steps are roughly:

- Download the Windows 10 installation ISO: https://www.microsoft.com/fr-fr/software-download/windows10 (other download methods: https://www.malekal.com/telecharger-iso-windows/ ).
- Create the installation media with Media Creation Tool
- Boot from it by changing the boot sequence and selecting the USB drive or DVD: How to boot the computer from USB drive
- Boot from it by changing the boot sequence and selecting the USB drive or DVD: How to boot the computer from USB drive
If the USB drive doesn't work, try creating another one with Rufus: how to download Rufus - see this tutorial for details: how to create a Windows installation USB drive
- Let yourself be guided to install Windows 10.
- Choose customize (not upgrade)
- During the partitioning phase, select the system partition and format it.
- Proceed with the installation on this system partition.
- Select the main partition
- The installer will tell you that Windows is already present and offers to move it.
Do not format.

Once Windows is installed, I recommend following these tips to properly configure and use Windows: Tips after reinstalling Windows.
