Hello,
Last night I started to watch a YouTube video, then I went to dinner, paused it and closed my laptop lid.
I was watching TV, relaxed, and after about 2 hours, I heard the clip I was watching playing in my bedroom! I go in and there’s my closed computer playing the YouTube video. It was kinda scary.
So I opened the computer again, turned off the internet, unplugged the Ethernet cable, and shut the PC down.

But I think I must have a virus because the other day there was already a Google page open about Hokkaido (an island in Japan), a search I never did.
And also, when I go on Facebook for example and on the right they suggest targeted ads, I get ads for hearing aids, that thing I would never seek out at my young age!!!

Could you help me? I have Avast as antivirus and I run Malwarebytes regularly but it never finds anything...

Thank you so much to the community !!

    Hi,

I don’t see the connection with viruses.

I figure that if my computer shuts down and starts playing YouTube videos by itself, maybe there’s someone behind it. Virus is a bit generic as a term, but perhaps someone is using my computer. An spy or something like that...

Okay, I’ll trust you on that (or rather on the keyboard), but do you know why my laptop has been closed and inactive for hours and somehow started a YouTube video? Because on top of that, I had to open it again to stop the sound, enter my password, and then close the tab!

        Like this, I don’t know.
But just because something strange or inexplicable is happening, doesn’t mean a virus is the cause.

It’s a bit like the Gauls, who, to explain thunder, invented gods.
or when something strange happens in a house, it’s haunted.

Indeed there is something to scare us :-))

With us, we put it down to the witches of Berry.

Yes, there was a bit of horror/awe to it. When I think that others make fun of me because I put tape over my webcam...

        hi
don’t worry, my webcam looks at a radiator when I’m not using it (a mobile one)
        also paranoid :o)

    Hi,

Ah, relieved not to be the only paranoid one with a double-sided tape on my webcam :)
Otherwise, I think for the video: the pad should be fairly sensitive, a "ghost click" simply had to restart the video...

Moreover I don't have a password, but when I reopen the lid I still have to click on my account to access my desktop.

Otherwise, I also saw on my Facebook that I logged in from "Montmagny" and "Clamart" even though I’m in Paris and I haven't moved...
I noted the IP addresses of the strange cities.

I won't lie to you, it's not to reassure me...
