Hello,
A classmate of my son had the unpleasant surprise of seeing the message "No Bootable Device, Hit any Key - [OK]" when starting his laptop.
This is a Packard Bell LV44HC laptop with Windows 8.
In the BIOS information, next to the HDD appears the mention "None," which certainly indicates a faulty hard drive. To confirm this, I installed the hard drive in an external case and connected it to my PCs. And indeed, Windows 10 does not see the disk. One might think that all it takes is to replace the hard drive, and that’s that.
Not so simple. When I took out the disk, I took the opportunity to install the old hard drive from my Sony laptop, which has Windows 10 32 bit installed on it. And while the disk now appears in the BIOS, there is still the "No Bootable Device" message at startup.
I then inserted a bootable DVD of "Linux Mint 17.2", then a "Ultimate Boot" CD, changed the boot order, and restarted: same problem. I did the same with a USB installation drive for Windows 10: same result.
When the message appears and I hit OK, a menu "BOOT MANAGER" shows up, stating "Boot option menu," followed by a large blank space with nothing in it, then [up arrow] and [down arrow] to change option, Enter to select an option." But as I said, no boot options are offered to me. It’s worth noting that you can also enter this boot menu by pressing the F12 key when the Packard Bell logo appears at startup, and it presents exactly the same way, that is, with no options to select.
I’m afraid this might be more serious than a simple hard drive replacement.
What do you think?
Thank you in advance for your responses.
Configuration: Windows / Firefox 52.0
