Hello, I have an HP Pavilion dv7 (quite old) and when I turn it on, I end up on the desktop (which appears with infinite slowness) and there I can't do anything except move the mouse...

I thought it was the hard drive, but the icons are there and the wallpaper is still visible: so it's still in memory. Do you know what my problem is?

Thank you.

    Hi,

Use CrystalDiskInfo to check the health of the hard drive.

Once it's on the desktop, you need to decompress the file into a folder.

Once done, you need to click on the DiskInfo64 file to launch it.

    Hi,

    What version of Windows?
What does safe mode look like?

On my message, the safe mode word is clickable.
You have the information to make this startup

    also try:

Boot into the advanced recovery options using method 1 on this page: Windows advanced options.
If you get to the window asking for passwords, if it's before it gets stuck...
Turn the computer off twice during the Windows loading.
It will enter repair mode, which will also give access to the advanced recovery options.

From there, you can try to initiate a system restore, selecting a date when everything was working.
If system restore is not possible, initiate a Windows reset; applications will be removed but user data will not be affected.

Here is the result of the analysis:

If anyone manages to save my computer, I'll send them a bottle of rosé from my village (no, but I'm serious!)

In your place, I would quickly buy a hard drive and clone this one onto the new one.

Your hard drive is at the end of its life (be careful)

It won't be long before it crashes.

Why spend so much on a 500 GB?

You can get a larger capacity for less money.

A 2.5-inch hard drive is standard for a laptop.

If it's on Amazon, you can get it changed.
