Hello,
Since installing OS Sierra 10.12.3, I can no longer do any word processing. I managed to download Open Office, which I used before, but when I save the document, I find it in Text Edit. I can't do anything with Text Edit: no page formatting, unreadable text because it's too small. I've tried to configure it without lasting success... How can I permanently remove Text Edit and set Open Office as the priority? Thank you very much.
System: Macintosh / Safari 10.0.3

Good evening,
When you create a document in OpenOffice, once finished, you save it (File menu/Save As), you have the choice of the extension in the dropdown menu:
If you leave the default choice .odt, when you open your document with a double click, it will necessarily open with Open Office.
If, by mistake, you saved it as .txt, TextEdit will be called. You can therefore choose the extension, which will determine which application will open the document, depending on the file extension.
If you want to open a word processing document with an extension for which you do not have the application with which it was created, you right-click on the file/open with and choose Open Office, which opens most text files.
You should not delete TextEdit, it is part of Mac OS applications and can open .txt files created from a Mac or other computer.

Thank you very much for these really clear explanations. I just tried it. Even when saving in Open Office, when I reopen it, the doc appears in text edit... BUT I did what you said, right-clicked and "open with," and I found my normal doc again. I hope those I send it to will be able to open my docs too! In any case, you really helped me. Have a great Sunday!

Hello hortensia53
You can also practice like this:
Right-click on the file/Read the information:
In the info window that will open, you can choose the opening application and, if you want all your files from OpenOffice to open with this application, you click on "modify all"
Have a good Sunday

I applied the process and it's great. No need to do the manipulation every time. All my documents open again in odt.
Thank you very much for your easy-to-follow and clear answers.
Have a nice Sunday!
