I'm looking to convert photos that after a disk scan were named .chk into .jpg

Thank you in advance

I confirm that renaming can work.

I have the same issue with a hard drive. I made an image of the disk to avoid damaging the original data, and PC Inspector found 10,000 .chk files.

I renamed some to .jpg and was able to reopen the photo, the same goes for PDFs and even movies.
However, this represents a monumental task in my case since I have numerous possible extensions.

I confirm, renaming works for the photos, you just need to replace CHK with jpg and you can "work" on the photo again (resize, etc ...).

Anyway, thanks for the tip, I thought CHK was a separate format ...

      Hello,
I had the same problem because my SD card failed on me. I ran a scandisk on it plus a defrag, and after recovering the data using PC Inspector file recovery (from the SD card to my PC), I just had to change the extension and I recovered my photos, which I thought were lost!

The topic is dated, but I wanted to add that "renaming" works; it can be done quickly with the software "The Rename" for those who still find themselves in this unpleasant situation today.

    Hi,

.chk files are rarely usable as they are. They contain information that was 'lost' on the hard drive, but their content does not correspond to a specific file type.

In fact, the photos no longer appeared on the USB drive. I ran a disk scan and managed to recover them in .chk format, which seem to match the size of the photos.

Anyway, chk is not a format, so conversion is not possible. You can try simply changing the chk extension to jpg, maybe...
