Here everything is in the title. I’m stuck with Open Office and for once I honestly prefer Microsoft Office :( I work with children and as part of a Christmas card, I thought about inserting their photo into a circle, heart, or another shape, but I couldn't find an option. Yet in Word, it's so simple to go to "fill," then "image," and choose your file... Does anyone know a simple solution? I looked online and the proposed solutions are too complicated for me to use with elementary school children.

To try:

Draw the shape
Select the shape
Insert Image
Select image in the shape
Right Click> Fill
Filling tab "bitmap"
-Uncheck "Fit to shape"
-in size: uncheck "original"
--if needed, reduce the % height and width

Note also to consider the draw module for more flexibility in image and shape composition.

Yes but no. At my place, when I created and then selected the shape and went to the Insert menu, everything is grayed out except for "scanner" and anyway there is only one other section "from a file".

I should specify that I am using Open Office 4.0.0.

Doesn't work either, it copies the photo instead of the shape... Oh well, the only solution I've found is to do it in Word and then copy/paste into Writer. I'll do the manipulation instead of the kids, but it reinforces my belief that Open Office is not ready to replace the Office Suite yet. After all, I know it's a job done by volunteers, I'm not complaining...

I just downloaded version 4.1.3 and I can now go to Insert > Image > image from file.

However, when I right-click > fill > bitmap, I don’t see any "fit automatically" option... Are you sure you’re not using Libre Office?

Thank you, but I was looking for a method usable with children... I've actually already read the tutorial, but 7 pages of explanations for such an accessible function in Word! Let's see for the next versions?

By the way, the truncated French accents on the Open Office forum are a bit off; it's a shame.

And regarding Office, I don't pirate it; as a teacher, I got a complete office pack for 8 euros that includes Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and even Publisher. After that, I'm a defender of open source, but I miss too many things that I use frequently.

For copying/pasting images from the internet, you should logically uncheck the "link" box. Indeed, it is assumed that there is by default a copyright on an image located outside the computer.

As for the signature, I don't see the connection with the sauerkraut.

When one makes an assertion, it is advisable to verify the truthfulness of one’s claims. The function I’m talking about in Word has existed since version 2007, or almost 10 years now.

Copyright regarding images on the Internet is a big debate. I simply focus on working with children, which is already quite a demanding job in itself, and if we address the question of copyright with the CM (cours moyens), it's not the case with the little ones.

By the way, I have no idea where the "link" box you mentioned is. Once again, it’s not accessible to CE2 children, the ones I’m working with on a Christmas card. The bottom line is, I made a Word page with medallions and copied it into Writer; that’s how I have to work. What matters is that it works and that the children get their Christmas card.

As for the signature, I don’t understand what you’re talking about, but oh well...

Hello,

In Word, once the image is inserted, you just need to double-click on it and several shapes will appear at the top of the screen. You choose one and that's it. It's a shame that such an easily accessible manipulation isn't available in Open Office Writer...

By the way, copying and pasting images from the internet to Writer is also problematic since sometimes it doesn't work or when reopening the document the image has disappeared...

As for the signature, I don't mix my work and my outside activities. Everyone is free to do it their own way :)

I do not claim anything. I have not used the products of this US multinational for over 16 years.

And as I mentioned in my comment 11, simply request an improvement from the developers of the OpenOffice project if you want to see this feature one day.
