Good evening,

I recently acquired a Mac OS X version 10.1.5, but it is very difficult to use Internet Explorer properly.
Is there another compatible browser for this version?

Thank you for your response...
Configuration: Mac PowerPC Internet Explorer 5.23

I'm not a Mac OS X specialist, but Firefox (free) should work for you. You can find it with a Google search.

Isn't Safari (the Mac browser) provided with your computer?

Thank you, but this site offers a download for a version newer than mine (version 10.1.5).

Your latest installation may have a problem because my computer is running the latest version of Mac OS 10 and the three browsers Internet Explorer 5.2, Safari beta version (the latest trial provided by Apple), and Firefox 2.0.0.6 are working fine. There may be settings causing your version of IE to crash, so here are two small manipulations if you haven't already done them:
    1. Restart your Mac by pressing the four keys "alt" "apple" "p" "r" at the same time. As long as you keep these four keys pressed, your computer will restart continuously. Let it restart four times and then release the keys, this clears the "pram" and resets the settings at the level of your system.
    2. Then select the Disk Utility from the "Utilities" folder, open it. Your disk will be displayed. Select it. Disk S.O.S will appear. In the bottom left, click on "repair disk permissions" (there’s no need to "verify" first) and let it run (this operation should be done regularly, by the way): it corrects lines of code necessary for the opening of the software. Then restart your Mac.
If all this isn't enough, try reinstalling Mac OS 10 (without erasing anything first) which will create a "Previous System" folder containing all the necessary elements for the software you have installed on your Mac that are not provided with Mac OS 10. There are other possible manipulations; I hope these will be sufficient. Good luck. Contact me if it still doesn’t work.

Small addition this morning. You should be able to upgrade your system to Mac OS 10.4 "Tiger." If you encounter any issues, contact me. Good luck.

Addition, the person who sold you your computer should have given you the installation disc for your Mac. If you reinstall Mac OS 10 from this installation CD or DVD, make sure to first throw the versions of Safari and IE that are on your Mac into the trash. The correct version of Safari and possibly even IE should install themselves from the source disc. If you want to be extra cautious, back up the current versions on a CD-ROM or USB stick before discarding them.

    Good evening,
I also have a Mac OS X 10.1 updated to 10.1.5 and I'm having the same issues with the browsers. I was using I.E 5.2 which I lost after a crash and I can't remember where I downloaded it from. So I reverted to I.E 5.1 to keep the updates from Apple. However, I found more comfort by installing Mozilla 1.7.13, which you can find on the Mozilla site.
As for Safari, there's no point in trying, as that software was only developed starting from OS version 10.2.
An Apple technician advised me to try Firefox, but I haven't found a version for OS X 10.1.5.
Camino is too recent - Opera, I couldn't install it.
As for upgrading your Mac to a newer version, you shouldn't think about it. We have a "bastard" version that started working well from model 10.3.
I continue to browse the sites to find Firefox 1.x.
Good luck, I'll come back to this site to see if you've found anything.
By the way, if you win the lottery, quickly get yourself the new Apple "Jaguar"? It's a little marvel.

“my OS version 10.1.5 does not allow me to download anything”
    Oh really?
You are not connected to the internet?
In that case, find a connected computer. Download. Burn…

but if I am connected to the internet!
I meant that every time I download a program
like "onyx" or "clamxav" it doesn’t work!
this OS version is too old!

It is true that 10.1.5 is a bit dated, but a browser like iCab can very well meet your needs!
    You can find it here:
    http://www.icab.de/download.html

Otherwise, it may not be necessary to upgrade your machine to 10.4 (Tiger), which requires more memory resources than 10.3.9. You can find version 10.3.5 (Panther) at Microccase, for example, here: http://www.microccase.com/detailprod.php?ref=416549

    Hello,

Thank you everyone for responding to my problem the best you could!!!!

After several attempts, it turns out that the best solution was found by Etienne-tux (at least for me).

Indeed, iCab is a better browser than Internet Explorer on my Mac, even if it occasionally has some bugs.

As for Pierre's messages from Grenoble, they are indeed good advice to know, but they weren't enough for me....

In any case, thanks again to everyone!!!!

    Hello!

Just wanted to say, if there's anyone left, that being in the same situation as Odrey, I have, after reading the above, tried iCab and then Mozilla 1.7.12. The display quality is comparable with both, much better than IE. But apparently, unlike iCab, Mozilla doesn't have any bugs. This version, in French, can be complicated to download, and FireFox, the associated email manager, refuses to work for me.

If anyone has a solution for that, they can let me know here or in the discussion of this same forum "affich-3836366-icab-me-fait-la-tete-snif)".
    Thank you in advance.
