Hello,
I’m currently in a student residence with a “great” public Wi‑Fi network.
In the entrance corridor the network is excellent, but once I’m in my room it’s a nightmare...
Is it possible to install a repeater (with 1 network port + cable) or a Wi‑Fi router in the corridor using the public Wi‑Fi network to connect my PC?
Is this technically possible with a public network?
The company managing the Wi‑Fi in the residence: Wifirst
Thank you :)

According to the latest news, repeaters only work with private networks
For this kind of local "extended" network (it's not really public Wi-Fi as you say), it must work differently and anyway, you won't have the admin/root passwords to configure your repeater
So ask Wifirst :) -
Hi,
it's obviously possible and even easy on a public network, but you have to place the repeater in a spot that has a good connection to both your network (your machine) and the public network, because the repeater doesn't receive the public network any better than you do.
afterwards, there are external adapters far more performant than the built-in Wi-Fi cards in devices.
and … Voila Voilou Voila !
