Hello,
I bought a new Lenovo laptop, but when I press the Alt+F11 keys, I do not reach the VBA explorer, but the screen gets dimmer :-(
I tried reversing the effect of the function keys by pressing the Fn key, but nothing works.
Do you have any idea to help me?
Best regards.

Hello Yvouille,
Be careful with the terms you use: “VBA Explorer”!
a) < Windows >< e > => Explorer window (of Windows)
b) < Alt >< F11 > => Microsoft Visual Basic (VBA) window
c) From VBA: < F2 > => Object Explorer (of VBA)
-------------------------------------------
For < Alt >< F11 >:
It's really strange! Normally, it's < Fn >< F11 > that should
darken your screen; and < Alt >< F11 > should open Visual Basic!
Maybe you pressed a combination like < Fn >< Lock >?
If so, redo it to disable this mode and < Alt >< F11 > might work
perhaps? Otherwise, read the rest of this message.
Try: < Fn >< Alt >< F11 > (but I don't really believe it!).
Read the documentation for your Lenovo laptop to better
understand your keyboard shortcuts; the doc is probably a .pdf file; to be read with Adobe Reader.
-------------------------------------------
With Excel 2007:
If you don't already have the Developer tab in the ribbon, then:
Office button (= File), “Excel Options”; left side:
“Standard” tab; right side, at the top, 3rd box to check:
☑ Show the Developer tab in the ribbon
Click OK to confirm.
Developer tab, Code group, click on the text
“Visual Basic”.
But maybe you already knew this way? 😉
-------------------------------------------
Keep an eye on the responses: maybe someone
will have an idea for your keyboard shortcut < Alt >< F11 >?
If you managed to solve your problem, please go to the top
of the page to click on the link “Mark as resolved”.
Best regards. 😊

Hi Albkan, and thank you for your help,
I had indeed already installed the Developer tab.
By trying your suggestion, I arrived at the following result:
Alt+F11: the screen darkens (but F11 alone also darkens the screen)
Fn+F11: a new chart sheet is added to my Excel file
Fn+Alt+F11: I finally reach the object explorer (and not the VBA explorer as you rightly pointed out).
If this situation comes from another key combination that I may have accidentally performed and someone knows how to reverse it, great; otherwise, I can live with it.
I can’t find the Lock key as you suggest; could it go by another name?
Best regards.

Hello Yvouille,
For < Fn >< Lock >, it could be < Fn >< Verr > as Verr is the abbreviation for
"Lock"; if you have a numeric keypad, also try, just in case:
< Fn >< Num Lock > or < Fn >< Verr Num >
It's strange that < F11 > alone, and < Alt >< F11 > do the same thing:
darkening the screen! But maybe one does it gradually, in
stages; and the other does it more "brutally"?

Since the keyboards of laptops are not standard,
and can even differ for the same brand, according to the models,
the best thing to do is always to consult the electronic documentation of
your own laptop! So try to read with Adobe Reader a
.pdf document whose name could be "Lenovo PC Manual,"
or "User Guide."
If you can read this file, first look at the table of contents to try
to find the chapter on the keyboard and/or key combinations.
Maybe your PC has a "Lenovo - Help" software, which will give
access to your manual and other info?
-------------------------------------------------------
If you didn't find anything, you can try going to the Lenovo site: you have
"SUPPORT" / "Download manuals." You will probably
have to specify the exact model of your PC; if it's a service that is in addition
to the original manual, or if your PC is no longer under warranty, it might be charged;
but there are still good chances that you can download it for free.
-------------------------------------------------------
If you have managed to solve your problem, please go to the top
of the page to click on the link "Mark as resolved."
Otherwise, let me know your exact model of Lenovo laptop,
and I will try to find information on the Internet.
Best regards. 😊
Thank you very much again for your reply. The F11 key alone and the Alt+F11 keyboard shortcut do exactly the same thing; the screen darkens gradually.
My PC should still be under warranty; I bought it last night :-)
But hey, it's a computer I bought for my pétanque club (yes, we also play it in Switzerland :-)) and we're going to use it once a week for the draw of that evening. So I won't worry much more about this problem, unless I have time to check Lenovo's help once.
You have been a great help to me. Wishing you all the best.
