PEEKBOX 3: SOLUTION HARD DRIVE NOT RECOGNIZED
Hello,
Apparently a lot of people have had the same issue, so here is the solution that worked for me:
The problem seems to come from the firmware that does not recognize large drives (500GB), or maybe only certain ones (WD Caviar and Hitachi?)
The solution is to update the firmware, but not from the Peekton website, as they haven't provided updates for a long time (there's no point in asking them why, it's so stupid that I really don't want to talk to them...)
So go get the firmware 1.66 from Mvix (the twin brother of the Peekbox):
https://support.mvixusa.com/support/login.sas?serviceurl=%2Fsupport%2Fs%2FShowHomePage.do
YOU NEED TO RENAME "uni_fmodd_1_66.bin" TO "peekton_fmeven_1_66.bin"
AND PLACE IT IN "upgrade" AT THE ROOT OF THE HARD DRIVE
(Respect the case, all in lowercase, then follow the manual if you don't know how to update)
The menus will then be in ENGLISH (or Korean), so either you understand English, or you configure with the manual in front of you (the menus are in the same order in theory)
To install it, you need to have another HDD, I used an old 4GB one, did the update, and then replaced it with the WD 500GB.
By the way, a question for some vendors: why do you send drives that you haven't tried beforehand??? The PC recognizes them, okay, but that's not enough! Moreover, mine came from clearance, so it had already made a round trip, and almost made a second one...
That's it, greetings to all... and inch'Allah!

My peekbox 3 was perfectly recognized by the PC running Vista, and it was also recognized by a friend's PC running XP, but for the past three weeks it has not been recognized on any of the 7 PCs (XP and Vista) to which I connect it. The LCD screen shows "USB connected," and the problem does not come from the cable... For now, I have no solution; if anyone has an idea... I will provide an answer if I find one.

I have the same problem, did you find a solution?

In the Control Panel: Administrative Tools, Computer Management, Disk Management; if the hard drive appears but no letter is assigned, then right-click to assign a letter.

Hello,
Thank you for your help.
Have you tried this method?
Does it work without any issues?
Thank you for your quick responses, I don’t want to make a mistake and damage my peekbox!

Yo,
Yes, it's all good, but since then there has finally been an update on the peekton site (http://www.peekton.com)
So do everything the same way, but I advise you to install the latest firmware from peekton, without getting it wrong: there are 2 firmwares, one for the peekbox that includes the FM transmitter, and another for those that do not have an FM transmitter.
Happy New Year, cio'.

Thanks, guys.
Yes, I saw the update on the PEEKTON site.
I just did it.
I hope my 500GB will finally be recognized, as I bought it specifically for the PEEKTON!

Hello,
I have the same problem with my Peekton 3 500 MB disk (without FM). I get the message "the hard drive is not partitioned," while under Vista it is recognized (I formatted it in FAT32). However, the PEEKTON.COM site is not accessible. Could you please send me the update to my email address? Thank you in advance.

Yo,
You need to put your email if you want us to send it to you.
I can't send it to you anyway because I have the one WITH FM.
So either someone else sends it to you, or find it online, or take the one you find in the first message above, and once the peekton site finishes its update, you can put the one from peekton.
PS: It's normal that the peekbox doesn't read all formats, see the manual for more information... I don't know if it's hardware or firmware, if it's firmware let's hope that future updates will allow more formats to be read...

Hello
I have a USB detection problem (device not recognized in Windows XP) with my Peekbox 4.
I currently have firmware version 1.1.19.
The TV interface works perfectly and the disk is visible in the list of devices (e.g., Movies).
I read in this thread that I needed to update the firmware.
I did that but nothing changed (I updated with the firmware downloaded from Peekton).
I want to update my Peekbox 4 with the firmware from MVIX (the brother of Peekbox).
The latest version on the MVIX site is v2.0.2. Is it still compatible with Peekbox?
I prefer to ask before ending up with a broken box...
The goal of my update is to allow normal detection of the box when I connect it via USB to my PC.
NB: For the record, I formatted a 500 GB Western Digital hard drive in NTFS using an IDE cable from my PC and created some empty folders.
Thanks in advance for your replies.

Problem solved.
I finally updated my firmware to version 2.0.2 of Mvix. Everything went smoothly.
I now have access to the Peekbox 4 box via FTP over Ethernet. I followed the recommendations from the following blog, which are very thorough: http://bidouilles.centerblog.net/
Good luck to everyone.

Hello,
I'm explaining my problem with my Peekton 3 with a 500 GB Western Digital hard drive.
Actually, I have two Peekton 3s (my brother and I) and mine (with a 500 GB Maxtor) has always worked fine without any issues, but when we received my brother's, it was recognized by the TV but not by the PC. So, I switched the cables, but it didn't work. I then swapped the hard drives, and I realized that it’s his casing that is faulty because his hard drive is recognized by my PC in my casing.
I tried the Peekton 1.68 update (the original one, but still nothing!!!!) and even one from MVIXUSA, still nothing, plus it was in Chinese!!! LOL
Has anyone had this problem???? Or better yet, does anyone know how to solve this issue!!! LOL
PS: When I connect my Peekton to my PC, it is not recognized, but the yellow "IDE" LED on the casing lights up and then goes off after a few seconds, while on my second Peekton "which works," this LED stays on!!!!!
Is there a connection!! Apparently, yes!!! LOL
PS2: I tried connecting the Peekton to other PCs (not just mine), still nothing!!!!!!
Please HELP ME!!! LOL My brother is starting to blame me for advising him to buy one.
Thanks in advance...

Hi everyone!
Personally, I bought a Peekbox 4 for my brother and I struggled a lot to get it to work, but today everything is working really well (WiFi, USB, TV, FTP, 500 GB hard drive recognized, etc.)
I followed the procedure below: http://bidouilles.centerblog.net/rub-Peekbox-4-Peekton.html
It helped me a lot during my struggles!!!!
Good luck!

Thank you for your help, but I've already read and re-read this topic and I can't find a solution to my problem, I have a Peekton3 and this topic is mainly about the 4.
Moreover, I don't know if installing and uninstalling (blindly) firmwares is good for my Peekton!!!!
Am I the only one with this problem??? lol
Thanks again for your message, I'm still searching, I won't give up the fight!!! lol

Good evening Mastic
I just read several forums about the Peekbox 3.
I have the same problem of hard drive not being recognized.
I submitted a help request on the 4th and today, but no response yet?
My HDD is a Seagate (Barracuda 7200.10 500GB).
I can't do what some are suggesting, which is to download the new firmware 1.68 because I don't have another hard drive.
Tomorrow I will call the Peekton hotline.
If they have a lot of complaints, they might do something to remedy this issue.
See you later.

Hello everyone,
same problem, I set everything up yesterday, my USB was recognized, I watched a movie on my Peekbox 3, no issues, it was running smoothly and this morning, I went to add a movie, the USB is no longer detected on 2 PCs, one with Vista, one with XP, I also have a Seagate Barracuda hard drive that was originally sold with the case... to be honest, how smart is it if it's not compatible! Anyway, does anyone know more about this? I would think there might possibly be an issue with the USB port, I find that it has a bit too much play and with the constant connecting and disconnecting, it eventually ends up breaking!!! What do you think?

I bought my PEEK BOX 3 less than a month ago and I'm having the same problem. At first, everything worked great, but now my PC no longer recognizes it. The screen displays USB connected, and after a few seconds, the IDE LED turns off. I tried it on another PC and with another USB2 cable, but nothing works.
I called the PEEKTON hotline (0820 03 03 03) and they told me that if the peekbox moved a bit while burning a file, it could cause a problem (I don’t remember exactly, I'm not an expert). The issue is that apparently, to repair it, they will reformat the hard drive, and I don’t have another one to back up my data!!!!! I'm furious. If you have a solution, I’m all ears.

I have 2 Peekbox 3, and when I switch the two hard drives, it's always the same Peekbox that doesn't work. So it's not the hard drives but definitely the case; I suspect it's the USB output, but it's surprising because my case has never worked. Before formatting your hard drive, try putting another one inside to see if it's the case itself that's the problem. It would be a shame to lose all that data knowing how much effort we put into storing all those movies!!! lol
Still waiting for a solution.............good luck!!

I have already tested with 2 peekbox 3, and it seems that the system (windows + firmware) gets mixed up between the two.
Connect them one after the other and try to name them differently (rename them in the explorer by clicking on the root of each peekbox) to ensure you can identify them later.
Then connect both peekbox and check the contents of each drive that appears in the explorer. If I remember correctly, in my case, I saw the same content on both peekbox even though it was actually different.

Hello,
Yesterday, I tried everything, several hard drives, several formats on the external casing (ntfs, fat32), jumper positions, updating the firmware according to Teo, updating the Peekton site, nothing works, two days ago I sent them an email, still no response!!! When I see the price of the casing, I'm furious.
In addition, I found that it is impossible for me to format my original hard drive (Seagate Barracuda 500 Go) to anything other than ntfs!!! Is there any way to remedy this and format it to fat32? I don't think it will help me for my Peekbox casing, but it would allow me to possibly use it in another PC, because I also think that all our casings are dead!!!

Good evening,
I have the same problem. It started with file transfers lagging (2 hours and 30 minutes to transfer 40GB???).
Yesterday, I was able to watch a movie and today, I'm facing the same problem as you. I had already sent my Peekbox 3 back because it crashed my PC as soon as I entered a folder containing videos.
Everything started with the firmware update.
I think it's going to be sent back for good.

because I've tried everything, the update... nothing has changed.. and on top of that, I don't have a warranty..
if I send it to customer service, it's going to cost me..
