Hello,
Can you tell me how to remove the read-only setting in Word on a tablet (Samsung Tab A) please?

    Hello Pauline,

I don't know tablets in general, nor yours in particular.
However, I can tell you that it's not your Word software that
is read-only, but your Word document: it's the file that
contains the text you see on the screen, and it should be in your
    "Documents" folder (or "My Documents").

So close your document with < Ctrl >< w > (window close).

There's no need to quit Word; press < Windows >< e > (explorer)
which will open an Explorer window.

Choose your "Documents" folder and select your Word file,
    without double-clicking or pressing < Enter >.

Press < Alt >< Enter > to display the "Properties" window.

At the bottom right of the word "Attributes", uncheck the box to have:
    ☐ Read-only
Confirm by clicking the "OK" button: your file is now unprotected.
You can close your Explorer window with < Ctrl >< w >.

With Word, open your file: your document should no longer be
in Read-only mode. Let me know if it worked, as otherwise, there could be 2 other causes.

    Best regards.  😊
