Hi everyone,
While watching the videos broadcast on TV (demonstrations, floods, weather reports, concerts, etc.) featuring testimonies, I was wondering: Why are amateur videos filmed with smartphones blurred on the left and right sides? Knowing that the same image appears on both the right and left.
Just a simple question because visually it's not great and there's nothing to hide!!???
Thanks to all of you

Hello,
This is the current nonsense, a mobile phone is held vertically so people film vertically (ridiculous!).
On a 16/9 horizontal screen, the vertical 16/9 image from the phone will therefore be surrounded by a lot of black, increasing the narrowness effect of this image lost in the middle of the black, so we fill in with a blurred image to "fill" the screen and reduce the effects of narrowness and verticality.
Conversely: a camera is preferably held horizontally, the nonsense is repeated, people only take horizontal photos, even portraits...

HA!! here’s a response
indeed. What you say is true. Everyone holds it vertically and then it’s a mess to rotate it 90° (see the number of questions on this subject).
Thank you, I thought people were less stupid and that it was intentional on the part of the channels.
A big thank you to you
Have a great day
