Waltham HD TV Sound Problem

Hello,
I have a Waltham HD television, and a few days after the warranty expired, the sound stopped working. I asked a friend to fix it, and the only solution he found was to connect the television to the speakers of my hi-fi system. Since then, the sound has not been working on HD channels, which didn't bother me at first because there were few of them, but now that the television has switched to HD, I have no sound on any channel.
Is this normal, and is it possible to fix this?
