Hello,
Here is my problem: I accidentally replaced all the content of one of my files by overwriting it with a file of the same name that has nothing to do with it...
I tried the previous versions restoration tool, but unfortunately my file was not saved at all on Friday the 25th! Isn't the tool supposed to save every day?...
I also tried with Recuva, and I found my document (which is a .psd), but unfortunately my Photoshop no longer recognizes it!
"Unable to open this document because it is not a Photoshop document," it says...
Please help! If I don't have this file, I'm dead, and I even have less time to redo it all from scratch!...

Hello,
unfortunately this kind of thing happens very quickly and often if you don't take the time to set up your workspace when starting big projects.
You need to set up periodic saves in Photoshop to avoid this kind of inconvenience.
Unfortunately for you, your file seems lost. We tend to work very (very) quickly and rather well under pressure, so I recommend not wasting time next time by making several copies of your work on multiple storage spaces if it's really important.
P.S.: This has happened to me a few times, mistakes forge...
Good luck...

Hello, as for me, I've been working on a Photoshop file for several days, and I save manually almost after every change.
Despite everything, while I was in the process of finalizing my work (several folders containing several layers), my computer shut down unexpectedly due to lack of battery.
When I open my file again, it only shows a black background as if all my folders and the layers within them had been overwritten.
I have obviously tried "restore previous version" but it's empty. The same goes for "temporary files."
Is it recoverable?

I confirm, even if the tool makes backups, it's for cases of crashes.
If you overwrite a file with another file, for the computer it is a deliberate operation and therefore it will overwrite the sectors of the file. So it's lost.
Unless you have an incremental backup tool that notes all changes and performs regular checks, which will allow you to recover a "different" version in your case, it's doomed, sorry.

It's difficult to give just one tool, as the options are numerous, depending on what exactly you are trying to do or "prevent."
Personally, I am in setups that protect me from any loss (even if the house burns down), but it's not free.
For the free option, the simplest has already been mentioned: making regular backups with alternate file names. It's free but restrictive.
Without going into details about my setup for several PCs, I use Spideroak (US), which is the only one (that I know of) that allows me to go back to any version of a file and does so without a time limit on automatic cloud backup.
