External hard drive changed to RAW format Solved

Question

I am on Windows 7 and I have a 2 TB external hard drive that has gone RAW, I would like to convert it back to NTFS to recover my data without having to format it, thank you.

It doesn't work with Windows 7 64    it writes  "chkdsk is not available for raw reading."

For your information, I am on W7 64 Bits and the tutorial proposed by fabul worked and I can now recover my 2TB of data that I am copying to another drive.

Windows still does not want to open the HDD and offers to format it, but through the TestDisk application, I can recover my data. Moreover, it is really simple, but long, about 5/6 hours before I can start backing up my data.

Follow the tutorial carefully and it will work.

My drive is 2000 Gigabytes (2TB), it's actually 2 drives of 1000 Gigabytes in dual-Boot in the same enclosure, which logically should have complicated things, but it didn't.

So now it's your turn!

I signed up here to post on the subject that helped me a lot and to inform you that even under Windows 7 x64, the tutorial works perfectly.
