Hello everyone,
This is a topic that is widely discussed on the forums, I know, but with a slight nuance: I spilled a quarter of a glass of wine (white!) on my Asus laptop (which is one year old...). I absorbed it, turned the laptop upside down, and let the excess drain. Once turned back on, the laptop was working perfectly: the touchscreen was fine, all the keys were fine, the sound was fine... except for the touchpad, which was unresponsive. Ten minutes later, it suddenly turned off, emitting smoke for 2 seconds... Since then, it won't turn back on; only the power light is flashing.
It is still under warranty for another 2 years, but I can very well imagine that it's dead because there will be evidence of oxidation.
What do you think? Should I attempt to use the warranty? Go see a repair shop?
Thank you and have a good day!

Hello,
It's better to see a repair technician, and depending on the model of the PC, it might not be worth it.
As for the warranty, indeed, there's little chance it will work.
The biggest mistake was trying to get it to work too soon.
When a liquid gets into electronic devices, you should never try to turn them on right away.
And it’s even important to think about removing the battery.
And let it dry for several hours, if not days.
Now, if you noticed smoke, there's a good chance a component is burnt out. After that, which one? We don't know.
See you later!

Hello
you can try the warranty
but indeed there is a good chance that they will tell you it is not repairable or at least not covered, and therefore at your expense
and above all, do not try to restart this laptop, and leave it unplugged and without a battery
fire hazard, you never know, even if it is relatively rare, it can happen!
maybe it's worth changing the touchpad
but you still have to find it and know how to change it
the cost of the part + shipping fees + labor should be compared with the price of a new or very recent used laptop.. identical or not.. this poor laptop is not to blame.. lol -
Thank you very much for your responses. Indeed, after consulting several forums on this issue, I understood that turning it back on too soon was the big mistake... Since it didn't turn off by itself at first (it even started to do updates!), I didn't turn it off while I was "sopping up" the disaster. After that, I turned it off, then turned it back on and it worked really well for 10 minutes before it shut down abruptly and started smoking... Since then I haven't touched it, but I also can't remove the battery, it's not accessible, I need to unscrew the bottom to get to it... (which I haven't done!).
I'm still going to try the warranty, you never know... Generally, do they just return the laptop and say they can't repair it because of oxidation, or do they still make an estimate and evaluate the repair cost (even if it's not covered by the warranty)? -
Drinking or smoking is harmful to health, but I see that for computers it's the same.
