GTX 980 Gaming 4G temperatures

Hello,

I replaced my GTX 770 yesterday with a GTX 980 Gaming 4G. I have an i5-4690 at 3.5 GHz, 8 GB RAM, all in a Cooler Master Elite 130 mini-tower.

The idea with this graphics card is that at idle the fans don’t spin and they increase activity based on heat, only starting to spin at around 60 degrees.

I installed GPU-Z as soon as I installed the card to monitor temperatures a bit. Yesterday I noted that at idle the card stayed cold, around 39 degrees or so. While playing Battlefield it rarely exceeded 60°C. While playing Far Cry 4 on Ultra it hovered between 75 and 80°C, which seems normal for this card.

Today, when I turned the PC on, I notice the card quickly goes to 59°C and the fans start, and the temperature stays at that level, which seems rather high to me. The case isn’t ideal for airflow, it’s really small, but I’m having trouble understanding why idle temperatures have changed compared to yesterday.

I also wanted to know if it’s normal at idle that the following are true:
- GPU load at 2%
- Memory controller load at 2%
- Video engine load at 12%
- power consumption at 25% idle

Sorry for the long message, thanks in advance for your opinions.

Actually I found out why the temperatures were different between yesterday and today. I had ShadowPlay on to be able to record in-game and apparently even when it's off, on the desktop, it still makes the GPU work and it increased the idle temperature by 15°C.

A bit strange but oh well.
