Issue: Resetting the used ink tank on MG3550

Question

Hello,  I am reaching out to you because despite extensive research on this topic, I haven't found anything substantial...  Therefore, I own a Canon PIXMA MG5500, and I am looking to "reset" the waste ink absorber after receiving an error message. However, I am not keen on paying €100 for an intervention at a Canon center if I can do it myself.  Thank you in advance!

You will surely find online the procedure to enter "service" mode and reset the used ink counter to zero... (Canon Waste Ink Tank Reset Procedures)  BUT, there is a reason for this function. It is necessary to change the recovery pad, otherwise it will overflow and flood the printer completely... and that is a nightmare!! It gets everywhere in the machine, on the table, on the floor, in short, it spills everywhere and it is very difficult to clean because the pigment is so intense that it penetrates everything that is at least somewhat porous (fabric, paper, wood, etc...)...  If you reach that point, it is more cost-effective to replace the printer than to try to clean it!  On the other hand, the reset procedure is interesting because it allows you to unblock the printer to finish a job or something, but it must be done knowingly and temporarily... knowing that the pad will need to be replaced as soon as possible... (and redo the reset).  The pad is not a consumable in small printers... unfortunately!
