Problem with "TWAIN source" with a CanonScan Lide 20
Hello,
My scanner works perfectly with a DELL Latitude 6500, but I can't get it to work with a DELL Latitude D630, with the message "Unable to select TWAIN source"!
Both PCs are running XP.
I have exactly the same C:\Windows\twain_32 and C:\Program Files\Canon.
Based on what I have found as advice, I have indeed, on the D630:
- uninstalled and reinstalled everything that is Canon
- executed the driver lide20lide30n6 ... (the same one on the Canon website and others)
- checked that in the "Path" (the manipulation My Computer, Properties, Advanced, Environment Variables) there is C:\Windows\Twain_32\CNQL20
Thank you in advance for your help.
Claude
Configuration: Windows XP / Chrome 46.0.2490.80

Hello Leile,
This is a communication issue between the software you are using and the scanner. To determine whether the issue is related to the scanning software or the port configuration, I invite you to initiate the scanning from a PDF file or the Paint utility, as illustrated below:
It is also useful to manually change the port settings under the TWAIN driver
This time, the scanner's TWAIN driver will load and allow you to modify its internal settings before scanning.
If you encounter errors, return to the Scanner Manager and check the current data source.
If other TWAIN data sources appear in the Data Sources list, try selecting and testing with another data source.
If it still doesn't work, it will be necessary to create another Windows session and test the scan there.
I remain available if needed.
Have a great day, best regards.

- Click Start> Settings> Control Panel.
- Select the scanner manager to display the list of installed scanners.
- Right-click on your scanner and select Properties to display a dialog box with several tabs.
- Click on the TWAIN Scanner Settings tab.
- Check the option "Show TWAIN settings before scanning."
- Close the Scanner Manager and the Windows Control Panel.
- Launch your scanner utility by starting another scan.

And thank you very much for your quick and detailed response. But I'm still struggling!
I made a doc with screenshots that I can send you (if that's possible, my email is ***@***). I replaced the screenshots below with their description after ***
As for Paint, I often use and have been using version v3.5.11 for a long time. You clearly don't have the same version, and I initially tried to find the scan command from a scanner. It's not in the same place as in your version, and it doesn't seem to be activatable:
I then tried to download the latest version (4.0.5 or 4.0.6 from different sites), but the execution of the exe doesn't work. I get a window with the message:
I don't understand since the command "winver" gives me:
I also read that Paint was not designed for scanning, so I gave up ... without understanding my problem!!!!
As for manually changing the port settings under the TWAIN driver:
- in the "Control Panel" and under "Scanners and Cameras," it seems that I have the correct driver for the scanner:
and I can display its properties correctly.
I don't have the "TWAIN scanner settings" tab, but when I test the scanner (I have a "General" tab with a "Test Scanner ..." button), after a few seconds of the scanner operating, I get a window with:
But when I want to scan, I get a window with:
I hope I have been as clear as possible regarding the description of my problems. Thank you in advance.

Thank you for your detailed explanatory response, which is itself informative even without the screenshots.
Normally, you should have the TWAIN tab for selecting the TWAIN source and also have the option to modify it. I encourage you to reach out to the scanner manufacturer for more details and the script to change the TWAIN source.
It is also recommended to test it on another Windows session.
I remain available if needed.
Have a great day, best regards.
