Hello, hello!
Sorry if this is a repetitive question, I can't find it in the previous messages.
I’m finally tackling the two Yosemite installation keys.
Using the instructions from *Francis "Create a USB installation disk for OS X 10.10 Yosemite" from September 2015.
- The first key - the one containing the "Install OS X Yosemite.app" application - was made without any apparent problems.
- The bootable installation key is giving me serious insomnia :-)
The formatting of the key is not an issue, it goes like that of any external disk.
But creating the key using the phrase to paste in Terminal doesn’t give me any positive result (and I'm still a novice in Terminal).
For verification, as soon as Terminal gives me the prompt and without hitting return first, I paste this:
sudo /Applications/Install\ OS\ X\ Yosemite.app/Contents/Resources/createinstallmedia --volume /Volumes/yosem --applicationpath /Applications/Install\ OS\ X\ Yosemite.app --nointeraction
Then, return to the line and Terminal asks for my password. But my administrator password doesn’t yield any result other than a reminder that commands entered in Terminal can cause problems if incorrect, plus an invitation to press Ctrl+C to abort the attempt. If I manage to enter my administrator password, I get the same response.
So, the "Install OS X Yosemite" app is still in my applications folder, I have a complete copy on the key, but I would also like to create a bootable installation key.
I used two Emtec USB2 keys of 8 GB, and for the installation key, I also tried a 32 GB USB2 Sony, to no avail.
By the way, what does iCloud have to do with this? My iCloud identifier is an email address but I haven’t really set up the account.
Anyway, I need help!
Well, that was my first of the evening ;-)
Thanks in advance to everyone for any info that can get me out of this tricky situation.

- Francis* or Ritchi - are you around by any chance?

Hello,
Here is an alternative recipe to the one proposed by Francis:
Create a bootable USB drive with DiskMaker X
It uses the DiskMakerX tool, which takes care of everything (or almost!)

Hello _Ritchi_
Thank you very much for your response (morning one :-) but
-firstly, I don't know how to stop a download from the App Store when the disk image appears because I apparently don't know what action to take to stop this download precisely. I've clicked here and there, and the result is: I've still downloaded 94 MB and some dust
-the link provided to get DiskMaker doesn't work. It says "Access denied Access denied .........."
I would be happy to find a simple way to create this USB stick, your idea was probably good. But I need to know how to stop the download at the precise moment, and also find another link for DiskMaker.
But, being furiously curious, I would also like to know why the Terminal method didn't work. Last night, I found a US blog that gave exactly the same instructions as Francis, except he named the USB stick "Untitled" to change the name later in the process.
Talk to you later, if you can/want to.
Me => coffee, and fast.
Best regards

Hello
The download of Yosemite is taking a long time because the file is several GB.
You do not need to interrupt this download.
However, once it is completely downloaded, the Mac will start the installation procedure by displaying an explanation page and it will wait for you to tell it to continue. There is no countdown, so don’t panic.
Just take this break to stop the installation.
Then you launch DiskMakerX and follow/do what it asks you to do.
For your information, if you choose to start the installation of Yosemite, then at the end of it, the downloaded file is automatically deleted and it will no longer be possible to create the bootable USB key. The only solution then is to ... download the several GB file again.
Regarding DiskMakerX: does this link suit you better: http://diskmakerx.com/downloads/DiskMaker_X_4b5.zip

PS: for the explanations on why Francis's method isn't working, I will think about it, but right now, I'm coming home from work and I want to relax a bit before I make my brain work.
