Hello,

For a week now, every time I start my computer, an iCloud window opens asking me to enter my password; as soon as I enter my password, another window immediately opens that does not recognize my password either; and so on until I click cancel...
What's strange is that when I go through 'System Preferences', clicking on the iCloud icon opens it without me having to enter my password.

In the iCloud window, the iCloud icon is pre-selected, and I can't uncheck it; moreover, on the same line, the word ''Settings'' appears followed by a small gray gear that keeps spinning, preventing me from accessing the settings...

I hope I have been clear enough in my explanations; and I thank you in advance for any help you can provide to resolve this recent issue.

See you later

Hello,

You may have picked up some "malware", read this help to get rid of it:

Good evening,

It's not really clear for me, try to include screenshots of the problem by clicking on the "Reply to topic" button, you should have this icon that allows you to post a screenshot:

In any case, it is normal that in the system preferences / iCloud, you do not need to enter a password to access the settings window, but this password will be required if you ask to see account details.

When you are in iCloud, I don't see what selected icon you are talking about in addition to the iCloud icon on the same line. You should only have one icon related to iCloud, like here for example:

Are you certain that the pop-up window opening at startup really concerns the official iCloud site?

Are there things set up in the system preferences / Accounts / your name / login?

If you manage to post screenshots, we might know more ...

Best regards.

Hello,

Indeed, I see better where this endlessly spinning button is located.
It is not the iCloud settings button, but the iCloud Drive settings button. It's not quite the same thing.
iCloud Drive manages the available space on iCloud by allowing or not allowing certain applications to use that space.

Normally, it should show "Settings..." but "Options" instead. Here the system fails to set these options... for example:

If you managed to use this Options button, you would then get this window:

You might also try to get the iCloud account details from the appropriate button.

But, since you have absolutely nothing checked as sync type, and nothing stored on iCloud Drive, I suggest simply signing out of iCloud from the button in the bottom left, and signing back in if needed.

Also, check this iCloud troubleshooting help:
https://support.apple.com/fr-fr/HT203512

Also, look in your system preferences, under Users and Groups, if you have anything unwanted scheduled to open at startup, if so, select it and remove it by clicking the minus sign. For example:

Finally, have you set the Mac so that the last running applications launch automatically at startup, and is the iCloud page or tab set to launch with Safari?

For example, in your system preferences, are these boxes unchecked?

See you soon for the next steps :)

Good evening,

In the startup items, I would remove WDDriveUtilityHelper... this thing is absolutely useless. It's something that comes with external hard drives purchased in stores, but the OS X system doesn't need it at all.

I would also delete "CleanMyMac 3 Menu," which probably comes from a trial version of CleanMyMac, an application that I personally do not recommend, especially for beginners.

The problem with CleanMyMac is that the basic uninstallation, by dragging the application to the trash, is not enough as this application leaves quite a few leftover files on the Mac.

To completely remove CleanMyMac in its current state, the best approach is to use EasyFind to search through the entire hard drive for any file containing the term cleanmymac or MacPaw, including hidden files, and ignoring case sensitivity.

Then for each line found by EasyFind, right-click to show the file in Finder, then move it to the trash and empty the trash.

https://apps.apple.com/us/app/easyfind/id411673888?mt=12

What is surprising is that there is no iTunes Helper in the startup items. It is a basic thing for iTunes.

I would recommend checking the 2 boxes indicated in System Preferences. This will prevent applications from reopening automatically when the Mac restarts and will ask for confirmation to close a document if it hasn't been saved beforehand, instead of performing an unwanted automatic backup.

Did you try logging out of iCloud for testing, and possibly logging back in if needed?

Good evening,
Thank you for your responses.

I have reviewed the link from 'dede74000' and have performed, as advised, a cleaning first using ''Disk Utility':
I checked the disks; verified and repaired the permissions...

Then I used 'Malwarebytes' which found a malware: OSX.Flashback

Finally, I opened ''Onyx'' and followed all the procedures for 'Verifications', 'Maintenance', 'Cleaning'...

Unfortunately, after 'Restart', again, a first iCloud login window appears asking me to enter my password to log into iCloud;
I click on 'Cancel' and the same window opens a second time. I click once again on 'Cancel', and the window disappears.

To remedy this, going through 'System Preferences', I opened iCloud; but I no longer have access to the 'Settings' function of iCloud; here is what appears to me:

a small grey cogwheel that keeps turning, preventing me from accessing the settings...
How, please, can I regain this function?

I also need your help to stop having, during startup, unexpected pop-up windows for iCloud login.

I hope, *_Francis_*, that the screenshots will help you better understand the little difficulties I am facing...

I wish you a sweet night...

Hello,
A big thank you *_Francis_* for your very educational handling.

I'm replying by sending you more meaningful screenshots than my poor attempts at explanations...not understanding anything myself..

Regarding:
''Also check in your system preferences, under Users and Groups, if you have anything unwanted scheduled to open at startup, if so, select it and delete it by clicking the minus sign.''
Here's the screenshot:

Regarding:
''You then need to take a look in the LaunchAgents folders.
You need to inspect the files contained in these folders at the global level /Library/LaunchAgents and at the level of your user folder ~/Library/LaunchAgents.''

The 2 LaunchAgents folders are empty

Regarding:
''Finally, have you set up the Mac to automatically launch the last applications used at startup of the Mac?''
No, I don't even remember what these 2 applications correspond to. I searched in my computer, found nothing; I must have uninstalled them a while ago.
What do you recommend, please, to clean all this up?

Regarding:
''And is the iCloud page or tab set to launch with Safari?''
No. I have never set that up. I have never used iCloud.

Regarding:
''For example, in the system preferences, are these boxes not checked?''
I'm sending you a screenshot of ''System Preferences'':

See you!

Hello *_Francis_*
About:
''Did you close the iCloud session?''
Yes and... The windows disappeared!!!
THANK YOU!!!

I deleted WDDriveUtilityHelper and
CleanMyMac 3 Menu (the latter with ''EasyFind'')

Here's how I set up the software search:

Please, should I delete iCloud?

Have a good day.

Hello

For CleanMyMac, do the same search but with the term macpaw because many files include the term macpaw instead of cleanmymac. (publisher's name)

For iCloud, there is nothing to delete. Once the session is closed, it’s as if you didn’t have an iCloud account.
But if you want, you can log back in with your credentials and see if the problem recurs. iCloud is useful for syncing between computers and mobile + tablets. And possibly for the storage capacity of certain documents accessible from your computer or mobile or tablet. But one can live without it....

Good evening,
I deleted it but forgot to mention it to you in my previous post regarding the same for the macpaw files.
Thank you once again for your help and I wish you a good evening.
