Hello,
As part of a project, I would like to use an old rotary phone of this type: http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/41Hh0kX%2BKKL._SX425_.jpg
I want to place this phone in a room and be able to call it from the adjoining room (from a PC or another phone).
Constraint: I do not have internet access or a phone line.
So it would have to be done in a "local network" wired. Is that possible? Type of connection (telephone socket, digital), what equipment is needed (switch, etc.)?
Otherwise, I was thinking of modifying the phone and putting a "USB speaker" in the receiver because I need to keep at least the phone's receiver (the microphone is not essential). But before making this modification, I wanted to know if there was a better option.

This type of phone operates with a line voltage of 48V and about 70V AC for the ring.
In order to make it ring, you would need to create a special power supply and have another phone of the same type for the caller, and I'm skipping over the switchboard for dialing a number.
The transformer might be easier... adapt a wireless phone inside and use the internal call function of the two-station devices to make your calls... at least it will work both ways.
