How to remove the gray background from merge fields in a mail merge?

Hello

It's in the options / Advanced options / section 'show document content' / Fields with pattern: always, never, when selected

there is no other manipulation than the one proposed by Argitxu.
But you talk about merge fields and in the title, merged fields.
Is the gray grid on the result of the merge?
Have you finished the merge or are you still in the preview of the result?

    And when printed, are the variables also on a gray background?
    If so, it is no longer just the background that allows you to identify the merge fields, but a real background.
    In this case, select your entire merged document and in the Home tab, choose "No Color" in the "Background Fill" tool.
