SOS Instagram phone number!!

For the past few weeks, my instagram account keeps interrupting my activity by "asking" me to verify that I am indeed the user of my account. For that, I am asked to provide my phone number, which I have always refused until now. They don't even specify whether Instagram will be able to use this number, and after numerous attempts and futile searches, I AM REQUESTING HELP!!!!

    Hi,

    Is it that hard to add a "hello" at the beginning and a "thank you" at the end of your explanation? ;-)

    As for the phone number, it's a verification, similar to what Facebook does (Instagram being bought by Facebook...) they apparently use the same methods.

    This verification adds a layer of security to your account and especially, in case of need, allows you to regain access to your account more easily.

    As for its use, it is (theoretically) exclusively reserved for Instagram services that may use it in case of password forgetfulness and perhaps later for two-factor authentication if it becomes available.

      Hello, I have the same problem, yet my email address is there to send me a password reset or if Instagram detects an issue with my account like it was in my case, they sent me a code to my email and then with this code you can access your account but they also asked me to change my password then finally they are asking for my phone number, the problem is that in Spain SMS are paid, even when you receive them.
      I have never needed to give my number on Facebook, it's optional.
