Is a Microsoft account required??

I have a new PC for 2 months with Windows 8. I'm having a lot of trouble; it seems like there are a lot of things (applications) like SKYPE, ADOBE, but every time I want to "activate," in short, "use," I'm asked to switch to a MICROSOFT account on this PC. Is it necessary to use the PC to 100% of its functionalities? Does it mean I'm going to lose my current email address (@orange)? I feel like I'm a prisoner of Microsoft. Can you please tell me what to do?
Thank you

A Microsoft account is useful for downloading applications from the Windows Store and chatting with your friends using a Microsoft account (formerly MSN) on Skype.
But in any case, you can continue to use your Orange account for your emails or other purposes.

Know that if you open your session (like me) with a local account (useful if you are the only user to log in without having to enter a password), you will be able to download your apps from the Windows Store by entering your Microsoft account credentials.
But there will be a message indicating that it is not recommended, which you can simply ignore.
