Hello,
I have a BENQ MP515 projector (specifications here: http://www.ldlc.com/fiche/PB00093484.html) connected to an ACER laptop running Windows 7 via VGA.
I use it to watch DVDs.
After several tests, I cannot display the full image that the projector provides (image cut off by black bars or cropped into a square, resulting in a 30% loss of image capacity).
It's a shame, but I was wondering if I need to change the cable, the PC, or the projector?
Thank you very much for your insights!
Best regards,

Hello, you need to adjust your display (resolution) to the least performing of the 2 devices and run some tests:
Screen transfer from PC to video projector or TV
Turn on the TV or projector; the video connection will be VGA, S-video, composite (yellow RCA), or HDMI, depending on. Except for HDMI, you need to add an audio connection.
You can use an older TV with a SCART adapter to S-video composite and audio inputs.
There are several ways:
Start with this simple method for recent PCs on Windows 7 and 8: press the "Windows" key + the "P" key and choose your option "PC screen only, projector only" and duplicate, which is not useful here.
Or another method:
* On your PC, right-click on the desktop
* Screen Resolution
* Click on "Display the desktop only on 1" or "on 2"
* Apply
* The image will then project on the projection screen and the computer screen will go black
* Click on the projection screen or TV by moving the mouse over "Keep changes"
* OK
Repeat the process in reverse to get the image back on the computer.
Or turn off the projector; the image will automatically return (after a few seconds) to the PC monitor.
For audio, except with HDMI connection, we go through the PC's sound card output to feed the TV or an amplifier.
You need to align the display resolutions on the maximum of the least performing of the two screens.
Alternatively explained like this:
1. VGA and DVI ports
2. To open the Control Panel, click on the Start button, then on Control Panel.
3. In the search box, type projector, then click on Connect to a projector.
(To use a keyboard shortcut instead of the Control Panel, press the Windows key + P).
4. Select how you want to display the Desktop:
o Computer only (this displays your Desktop only on your computer's screen);
o Duplicate (this displays your Desktop on your computer's screen and on a projector

He talks about projecting only on the PC screen (screen 1) or on your second screen, whatever it may be (screen 2). This can be done with two keys without going into the settings and is unrelated to the question.
