My synth is silent: no sound comes out.

Hello,

Yesterday I finally received my synth, a brand new Yamaha PSR E-343, complete with stand and headphones.
I played a bit, only touching the ON/OFF button to turn it on and off, and the volume control. Other than that, I just tinkered without touching the functions and so on.

After a while, while I was searching online for some sheet music to practice, my synth shut off by itself. This is normal, it automatically turns off after half an hour to save energy.
But when I turned it back on, no sound came out. The keyboard is silent. Everything works but no sound is produced.

I plugged in the headphones to check if it simply switched to external: no sound either.

I can't find anything online to help me, I don't understand at all what's happening.
Can you please help me? I waited so long for this for my 25th birthday...

Thank you in advance!

Hi,

so it’s either a hardware problem (a malfunction),
or you have set the synth to “local off,” which means it disables its internal sounds and only transmits the notes' strikes through the MIDI connections, if your synth has them.
