Hello everyone
I only have a Lenovo Intel ThinkPad laptop running Windows 7 and it's failing on me.
It turns on normally with the usual ThinkPad welcome page. Instead of going to the user accounts, an error message appears:
ERROR
2100: HDD0 (Hard disk drive) initialization error (1)
Press <Esc> to continue
When I press Esc, the computer restarts and it's a vicious circle.
I have looked at other sites with similar questions to mine, but since I'm really bad with computers, I would like someone to explain to me what to do in simple terms. I tried to take apart the parts of the computer to see what the problem was, but nothing changes. I hope I have been clear because I would like to recover my documents from the computer as soon as possible. Thank you for your responses.

Hello. Most likely a HDD failure, check if it is properly seated. Has this PC undergone a shock (even minor)? Regards

No, everything is fine, I just moved it to another table this morning. It hasn’t changed its position and hasn’t received any shocks. Everything happened suddenly.

It's the system that is damaged, recover your data and reinstall it.

In that case, how to recover your data?

Hello,

You need to create a bootable CD (or USB) that will allow you to boot the PC outside of the hard drive... and visit the contents of the internal disk, if its condition permits...

And to recover the precious files onto another disk or external drive...

For what comes next, you will need to consider changing the internal disk of this PC... and reinstalling Windows before moving forward.

Hello,

I think your hard drive has serious problems; it might even be dead...

First, you need to check if it’s spinning (by the sound); otherwise, data recovery won’t be possible... I assume you don’t have a backup, do you??

If it’s spinning, it’s still possible to recover your personal data using a CD that you need to create (which is a small standalone Linux), you use this CD to start your PC, see your files on the disk, and copy them to a USB stick connected to your PC.

There you go, come back with the answers, think about what I’ve laid out here, and possibly prepare yourself for these operations that I’ll explain to you later.

If it turns. Good sign then?
In the control panel here is what I have:
Config
Date/time
security
startup
restart
hdd diagnostic program

then some information about my PC, its version, etc.

Your idea of a CD doesn't really appeal to me. I don't have anything like that.

I went to the site and apparently I should find bootrec /FixMbr but none of that is in the commands offered when I press F1.

I know you don’t have this CD.... I suggest you burn it yourself onto a blank CD. ... So your hard drive is spinning, you can feel its vibrations...? Is it recognized in the BIOS menus...?

Here is the site.. http://toutoulinux.free.fr/ and the procedure..

Here is the file to download: ftp://download.tuxfamily.org/toutou/5xx/Isos/Toutou-Wolx.2014.iso
then burn it onto the CD using an ISO burning software::: https://www.commentcamarche.net/telecharger/utilitaires/5693-cdburnerxp/

So you install CDburner XP on your PC and burn the ISO file using this burning software... by going to "Burn an ISO image"

Come back here when you have burned the CD.

Good evening,
I tried to follow your advice to try to fix my precious machine. I went to a friend's to burn the famous CD without success. I don't have any other computer at my disposal to burn this CD. Thank you for your reply anyway; I think I'm finally going to ask for a professional's opinion.

Know that professionals come to see me in desperate cases... Including data recovery from hard drives and USB sticks...

Now, if you want to pay, you could have done so from the beginning... And know that success is not guaranteed...

I don’t question your skills but my own. I am unable to do this on my own given that my knowledge is limited to typing text in Word. Thank you very much for your help anyway; I thought I could succeed but it’s impossible to do what you’re telling me. I can’t burn this CD since I only have one computer.
Have a good evening and all the best!

Bonjour,

http://www.hirensbootcd.org/200-ways-to-revive-a-hard-drive/

Good evening,
the best way not to worsen the situation since you're having trouble with computers is to go see a technician or something like that and explain it to him.
