Gps navman f20 won't turn on

Hi, I have a little problem with my Navman F20 GPS. I was using it and then I turned it off, and the next day I wanted to turn it back on and it wouldn't turn on. I was told there might be a procedure to get it to turn on again, but even doing a "reset" doesn't work. If someone could help me, that would be nice, thanks.
Configuration: Windows XP Internet Explorer 6.0

Hello,
I also had the same problem and I had to exchange my F20 for a standard one. Is this a reliable brand?

I had the same problem, and well, I opened it (2 small screws to remove underneath). You have to be careful when separating the two shells, it's fragile. If the reset doesn't do anything...
Then you need to check that the small card is in place; if it is, try disconnecting the "power" connector and leave it in a corner for 24 hours so that all the capacitors and memory can drain. After that, reconnect the connector and... it works again.
In total, that's how it went for me.

SOLUTION (I know it's too late but this message is for others)

For those who are under warranty: AVOID.

''no internal memory'', in this type of problem, very often the internal card that is not securely fixed inside the device has simply moved.

You just need to carefully open the GPS to access its core. The small memory card is immediately visible. Then you must very gently reseat it in its slot. Close it up and you're done.

If any anomalies appear, repeat the operation. The internal card may not have been properly reseated.

Signed: your savior :)

Hello,

Happy New Year 2010.
I have an issue with the internal memory on the Navman F20, nothing is working!!! I am looking for a copy of the files from the internal memory card to reinstall. Thank you.

It works!! I followed Kariine's advice and it's functioning wonderfully again.
The most tedious part was opening the box, but being careful helps...
see, it's easy to be a technician ...;-)

Hello to all the Navman stuck users. I'm joining your clan since my F20, after 1 week of working fine, is now stuck at startup on the battery symbol. While it was functioning (before the catastrophe!), it was always powered by the cable connected to the cigarette lighter, so I don't think it's out of juice. I've noticed a black cross on the right side of the battery symbol! Could it be defective? I've sent an email to Navman technical support and I'm waiting for a response which I'll share on this forum for those who have this type of problem. So no panic and in any case, whether stuck or not, Christmas is still scheduled for December 25th!

Hello,

no problems with mine, to turn it on you have to press the button until it opens, at least 5 good seconds.

Hello,
I just sent back my F20 delivered at 10:00 and went back at 1:00!
Once it was off... When I turned it back on, it said "no internal memory detected." It's frustrating!
I plugged it into the PC but... It didn't want to cooperate.

Good evening, I am experiencing the same problem. Apparently, no one has the solution except to send it back for a standard exchange.
Has anyone contacted NAVMAN customer service???
If so, what did they tell you???
Thank you in advance.

Hello, I had the same problem, so I sent it back for service as my F20 is still under warranty. I sent it on August 29 and received it back on September 19 in perfect working order. So if your GPS is under warranty, contact customer service and they will explain the procedure for sending it in (the shipping is covered by Navman).

hi, I had the same problem with the internal memory. I took the USB cable from my camera and connected my F20.
then read this ( http://ww11.navman-pcn.com/FAQs/Drivers/F-Series_FR/ ), download the driver (service pack) and follow the instructions. my F20 was updated and it works perfectly again. there you go, hope this helps

Hello,

I also just encountered the same issue, and here's what I found on the Navman website:

(FR 30) Why does an error message appear on the F20 stating that the memory cannot be detected?
Content
The internal error message that appears on startup for some F20s is due to a bootloader issue.
This has been rectified with a different bootloader and is no longer a problem on the new F20s.
The devices shipped with this error have now been repaired through a series of temporary modifications. This problem only affects devices whose serial number starts with or contains the digits 0641.

Mine is no longer under warranty, so I had to find a solution. Here’s one:
There is a "reset" button underneath, very well hidden in a small hole. I pressed it, and like magic, it restarted...

I hope you have as much luck as I did!

'day

I have the same problem...
Thanks Brutus for your help... but my problem remains unsolved.
I am downloading the pack here: http://www.navman.com/Navman/Templates/standardcontent____14478.aspx
During the installation of the pack, I follow the instructions. The installation goes smoothly. But in the end, I find myself with the following message: "the service pack update (set of temporary changes) has failed. Please try again" .
So, I tried again, several times... and I always get the same final message!
By reinstalling the pack, I tried everything... EVERYTHING! "delete" (3rd option available) then "reinstall"
I did a "reset" on the F20. Same outcome.
I went through the device manager to update the driver,
I uninstalled, then reinstalled the driver... My PC tells me everything is OK (ha ha!) but nothing works.
In the end, out of ideas, I even put my F20 in the deep fryer and threw it out the window... just in case...

Result: My F20 shows the following message at startup
"no internal memory detected. Please return the unit to the seller"

My problem: I received this Navman as a gift with a subscription to a daily newspaper.
So, no receipt... and no purchase date. So it's not guaranteed, the little toy!

Sniff...

But I'm thinking of something: the "update" (see the link above) may not be able to fix the problem simply because it requires reinstalling the entire software from scratch. Right?
If that's the case, then why isn't the installation CD in the box of my Navman? Re-sniff...

Hello, I also have the same problem, internal memory not detected. I had it on Wednesday and Sunday morning, nothing anymore.
It's hard to trust it, so I will check with customer service.
I think they won't be surprised because from what I see, it's a common issue with the NAVMAN F20.

Maybe that's why they're turning a blind eye!
It's still absurd that Navaman isn't following up, especially since this type of problem is widespread, and certainly very easy to fix. Well, I hope for their sake that it's simple to sort out: because they're going to end up with a lot of unhappy customers who won't hesitate to demand what they're owed.
In my opinion, at Navman, they're giving themselves a bad reputation.
Personally, from now on, I'll think twice before getting into this type of gear.
... Oh look! Here's a very useful forum!
We learn a lot... when we take the time to search!

Hello,
to contact the NAVMAN customer service, call the number found on the first page.
For those who no longer have the manual, here are the phone numbers: France +33 (0)1 70 99 48 03
Belgium +32 (0) 87 46 98 54
Switzerland +41 (0) 225 927 107

After analyzing the problem, if the device needs to be returned to NAVMAN, they will send you a prepaid COLISSIMO document via email within 24 hours.
Just print it and stick it on the package, along with the notice! The costs are covered by NAVMAN.
In my case, I called at 10:20 AM and the email arrived in my inbox around 1 PM. The return delay is about 3 weeks.

Hello everyone
I've sent I don't know how many emails to Navman, which didn't respond, and I've bombarded the cDiscount site where I bought this GPS? PHONE CALLS ... EMAILS == zero results; promises from the seller, never kept; like, in 24 or 48 hours you will receive an email to give you the next steps and instructions to return the device, and then it's silence!!!! deafening
So I contacted Navman by phone as indicated earlier on this site, and there I got immediate satisfaction.... an email for the return with the return label printed, which appeared in my inbox 30 minutes later ... so I sent back
the device and I'm now waiting for its return
it's actually a defect in the series; all that was needed was to open the device's window and reposition the card inside..... but since my device was still under warranty, I preferred to ..... but if this can help someone else.... here's an appropriate solution.
