PROTECT on JVC KD-R35

Hello!
I am the happy owner, albeit for a short duration, of a JVC KD-R35 car radio. I borrowed it because it displays "PROTECT" after being turned on. Let me explain:
I send power to it, it turns on, shows "JVC", then "USB" (at the moment it shows USB, I can adjust the volume but nothing else), then it starts blinking "PROTECT"...
I want to know the source of the problem. I read that it could be the speaker wires short-circuiting or touching the ground, etc. No wire is touching another, and even without any speakers connected, it still gives me "PROTECT" '--'
Oh, and while "PROTECT" is blinking, there is a small "AF" illuminated above, more towards the right!
So I am calling on car audio experts because I really want to fix this radio. It’s a gift we gave to my brother-in-law, so I don't want to let it rot or buy a new one... thank you all, and I hope you can help me. If you need more details, just ask below! Thanks again!
