How to connect my TV to my Bose speakers

Hello,
I have a Bose home theater system (DVD player + 2 speakers + a subwoofer).
I mainly use my TV exclusively for watching movies through my computer connected via HDMI or for playing on my console.
However, the sound only comes through my TV when I play on my console or watch a movie. How can I make the sound only come from my speakers?
Do I need to buy an amplifier?

Just to clarify: my TV is quite new and my Bose home theater system is a bit older (6-8 years, I would say) but it has an input for an optical cable.

    Hello, thanks for your reply.
    Unfortunately, there is no HDMI input/output on my home theater :(
    The model is Bose home theater 3.2.1 gsx series if I remember correctly.
