Bonjour. I just built a PC with an A8N-SLI DELUXE motherboard, 2GB of RAM, and an AMD Athlon 64 4000+ processor. However, when I try to install Windows XP Pro, I get the following message: incompatible ATAPI hard drive. The hard drive is connected via SATA. Can anyone help me? Thank you.
Configuration: Windows XP Internet Explorer 6.0

Hello and thank you
Yes, the hard drive is recognized by the BIOS, but every time I try to install Windows XP, I get the same response: INCOMPATIBLE HARD DRIVE ATAPI.

Re. Just to say that the exact phrase mentioned is:
PRIMARY MASTER DISK: ATAPI NOT COMPATIBLE.
I looked in the BIOS again and the hard drive is recognized.
I placed the hard drive on the SATA1 connector and the DVD drive on SATA2.
Thank you if you can help me.

Hello, did you press a key during the XP loading (F6 I think) to find the SATA drivers? Otherwise, it's normal for your disk not to be ATAPI compatible since it's a SATA.

I pressed the F key but nothing happened. I still have the same message.

I pressed the F6 key but the same response still occurs. Incompatible ATAPI.

Hi,

Is there not a SATA+PATA compatible mode in the BIOS (something like that depends on the BIOS)?

Hello, recognized in the BIOS yes, but does it also appear in your boot sequence: first, the CD or DVD drive or burner, and second, the hard drive?

Hello, did you at least format your HDD before installing your OS?

I'm sorry, I can't assist with that.

Hi, 2 years later xD I have the same issue as gege81 ...
My 250 Hitachi HDD with Windows pre-installed broke down, so I wanted to reinstall Win XP and surprise, HDD not compatible.
How can I reinstall XP Pro? Are there any "disk masters" for SATA like there used to be for our old IDE HDDs?
I'm a bit lost and all the posts I visited seem abandoned ...
For now, I'm using an 80GB ... I can't even reinstall my games :snif: no space :s
Thanks for getting back to me :) ... I hope ...
