Hello everyone,
So here it is, the other day I wanted to play a bunch of old family photos in RANDOM mode on our TV by connecting the computer. Since there were so many, we didn’t want to watch them all.
However, from time to time, there were photos that particularly interested us, and we wanted to stop the random playback, but it would restart from the very first photo instead of continuing with the next one, if you know what I mean. In short, we didn’t get the next photos we wanted, but the continuation of the first images we had before activating random playback.
I should specify that this is with the ACDSee Pro slideshow.
With the Windows slideshow, however, it would be just perfect, except that we can only set 3 speeds: slow, medium, and slow.
But sometimes we’d like to scroll even more slowly than slow, you know (they’re really geniuses at Microsoft, 3 speeds instead of a duration setting...) when we stumble upon good memories.
So what I need is the advantage of ACDSee regarding setting the duration of slideshows, and the advantage of Windows for being able to switch between normal or random playback without it restarting from the beginning after deactivating random playback.
Ideally, I’d like to tweak the Windows one. I saw that it was possible on Windows XP, but I have Windows 7.
So there you go, if someone has an idea. Thanks in advance for your help ;-)

Hello again
I agree with you, but the problem is if you increase the duration of the photo
you will increase the volume which necessitates having a substantial storage medium.
In this case, a USB drive rather than a DVD.
If you have video software, you can create a slideshow where you can adjust the duration of the photos and even add music or comments.
Best regards

Hi
I don't know if it fits your needs, but you can try XnView

I also tested "FastStone Image Viewer". Still not.
On the other hand, if you are looking for simple and intuitive software, I find this one pretty good. In terms of presentation, it's what I like. I hate all these cluttered interfaces currently. Moreover, there are a lot of transition effects for slideshows.
Aaaah! If only everything were as simple today, it would be bliss :-) Because the stuff like Windows 8 is totally insane and anti-ergonomic. A real nightmare >:-(
Anyway, I think there are really some good free software out there. Even if I haven't found what I'm looking for at the moment :-S
It's still crazy, the Windows slideshow would be perfect but the only thing they didn't think of is the possibility to choose your own scrolling duration. Sometimes they really are missing a box over at Microsoft...
It would have been so simple to integrate that.

Well, I also tried Picasa. That's quite a few software options :-P
The worst for me :-S In the pure tradition of Google products. It's a mess, all the information we need is not clearly displayed on the screen, in short, you have to guess and search a lot to do what you want, it's not intuitive at all. Anyway, I hate it. Next!

The longer you increase the duration of the photos, the heavier it will be.
For example, with 3 seconds per photo, you have about 1GB depending on the total number of photos; if you increase that, you could reach 1.5 or even 2GB or more.
To watch on TV, I edit with a video software, and as I mentioned, you can adjust the duration of each photo.
Best regards

Yes, here it is ^^
I'm not looking to create a slideshow as a file, actually. I just want to make a slideshow on the fly, in real time.
I know it can be confusing because my topic is posted in the "Video Editing" section.
Actually, I had posted it in the Office section but the moderation moved it to this section. Go figure how this choice is more relevant :-P

Does anyone have an idea, please?
I just want to remind you that I'm trying to find software that allows me to create slideshows (live, not for making EXE files) and with which I can adjust the scrolling duration and enable/disable random playback in progress (so without leaving the slideshow), without it restarting from the beginning in normal playback.
Example:
I'm in normal playback:
Images 1/100, 2/100, 3/100
I decide to enable random playback
Images 11/100, 52/100, 30/100
Image 30/100 is part of a series of images that I really like, so I decide to disable random playback:
Images 30/100, 31/100, 32/100, etc.
In short, I don't want it to restart from 3/100 where I had previously stopped normal playback (which ACDSee unfortunately does, otherwise it would be perfect).
Do you think this type of program exists?
I've already tested XnView, IrfanView, FastStone Image Viewer, Picasa, and ImageGlass. None of them meet my expectations.
So I thank you for any help you can provide :-)

Yes, but the problem is that you have to do it manually every time. When you’re looking at photos while sitting on your couch, it’s not very practical :-P
