    Hello,
until now I only had my administrator account; I wanted to create a limited account, but my administrator account no longer appears at startup, I want to delete this limited account but it does not appear in safe mode; what should I do? Thank you in advance.

To recover your data: Restart Windows XP in safe mode ;-)

      *****

The account named "Administrator" is only visible in safe mode if you add at least one additional account.

Please note that if you want an account called "Look at me, I'm the admin," it's better to use the account name "Owner" when installing Windows; it's a special account! And in the same process, create a second account called "Rescue" (with or without a password), also to be created during the installation of Windows XP (or Vista or 7) or create the "Rescue" account after the installation.

Hello! I think some will be very happy because I found how to solve the problem that I had last night. If your problem is the following: You were using the Administrator account created by Windows and you created an Administrator account afterwards... your first Administrator account disappeared and you want to go back to how it was before and remove the second account so that the first one appears again.

      To solve this problem,
      1) On the welcome screen, press CTRL+ALT+DEL (I had to do it 2 times... so try a few times..)
      2) A window appears (on a black background). Type "Administrator" as the name and your password. Enter nothing if you did not have a password.
      3) Your Administrator account opens, just like before!! Now to delete the other one:
      4) Click on Start --> Run --> and type "control userpasswords2" (without quotes).
      5) In the window that opens (titled "User Accounts"), make sure you are in the "Users" tab.
      5) You should see 2 accounts either Administrator and the other one that caused our problem. If you have created more than one, follow the next steps for each of them. [For example, you see Administrator, Pablo, and Picasso --> To restore your Administrator account, you will have to delete all accounts except Administrator]
      6) Select one (or the) account you created, and click on "Properties".
      7) A new window appears: click on the "Group Membership" tab, then select the "Other" option where you will then choose "Guest".
      8) Close the windows by clicking "OK".
      9) Then go to the Control Panel normally to delete the created account(s)! To know how (if you are beginners), check this site:
      https://www.luanagames.com/index.fr.html .

I hope I was clear and helped several people! By the way, even if your "Administrator" account has disappeared, you can still access your documents and files on the desktop by going to My Computer --> C: Drive --> Documents and Settings --> Administrator and look for the "My Documents" or "Desktop" folder to retrieve your files that were in "My Documents" or on the desktop......

By default, in Windows XP Home, access to the security tab can only be done from safe mode (press F8 or F5 when starting the PC; press F8 then F4 then quickly F8 on Packard-Bell PCs since the F8 key opens the menu for selecting what to boot from).

"On the welcome screen, press CTRL+ALT+DEL (I had to do it 2 times.. so try a few times..)" = So, you only have to do it 2 times ;-) ; normally no more and no less = 2 TIMES! It's planned that way = you have to do it 2 times.

Instead, use the normal account manager available in the control panel rather than using the command "control userpasswords2" (to be typed in the window that opens with the Windows logo key + r); avoid deleting accounts (why would you want to do that?).

    Hello,
I have a big problem since this morning:
When I started my computer, I received a message saying that there wasn't enough disk space to start my account. After that, I ended up on a "blank" desktop with no files, no shortcuts, etc.
So, I freed up some space on the C drive and restarted.
I thought I would find my account settings back, but nothing works; I still end up on this new "blank" desktop.
After checking, my files and account do appear in Documents and Settings, but they are not accessible in the User Account Management section.
Is there a way to start Windows with my old account?
    Thank you for your responses.

      Windows XP - user accounts:
      http://www.hotline-pc.org/comptesutilisateurs.htm

      Troubleshooting user accounts
      - Transferring data from one user profile to another:
This procedure can help you resolve the following error: "Windows cannot load your profile because it appears to be corrupt. You may have logged in using a temporary user profile."
First, you need to create a new user account. You must be logged in from the Administrator account, or from an account with administrative privileges that is different from the account you believe is corrupted.
      1) Click on Start/Control Panel/User Accounts, then on the Advanced tab and the Advanced button.
      2) In the left pane, click on the Users folder, then on the Action menu and the New User submenu.
      3) In the New User text box, enter a username, then a password that you will confirm.
      4) Uncheck the box "User must change password at next logon."
      5) Click the Create button.
Under Windows XP Home Edition, click on Start/Control Panel/User Accounts, then on the link Create a new account. Enter the name of the new account, then check the radio button that corresponds to the type of account you want to create. Click the Create Account button.
      6) In Windows Explorer, open the folder \Documents and settings\Old_Account_Name.
      7) In the right pane, select a file or folder, then press the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+A to select everything.
      8) Press the Ctrl key, then click on the files Ntuser.dat, Ntuser.dat.log, and Ntuser.ini so that they are removed from your selection.
      9) Right-click on your selection of files and subfolders and click on the Copy command.
      10) Select the folder of the user account you created.
      11) Right-click on an empty area of the right pane and select the Paste command.
      12) Confirm by clicking Yes to replace any existing files or folders.
      13) Log out of your user session, then log in to the new user account.

Consider instead cutting and pasting = moving (instead of copying and pasting) if it takes up too much space... but first (as a precaution and regularly), make a backup by cloning all the partitions on your hard drives.

      Creating a System Image (Ghost): https://www.commentcamarche.net/faq/304-creation-d-image-systeme-ghost .

Unless you use rewritable Blue-ray discs (2nd generation), buy two identical external hard drives in case a component like the power supply fails, so you can always manage (and an electronics technician can "repair" a component by taking parts from the other drive (which you will duplicate beforehand onto 2 new media) = useful if data isn't backed up elsewhere), and you can double your cloning on 2 different media.

for that, you need to press enter when you have a black screen with just a blinking white "_" at startup
but if it's to recover your password, that won't work...

      Hello,
no, I am not in safe mode and moreover, I still have to enter my password to access Windows.
It's as if I had reinstalled Windows, which is not the case.
      Thank you.

hello! sorry but I'm in the same situation as you and I'm searching in vain for a solution. I'm 37 years old, I have a 25-year-old stepson and a 10-year-old daughter, and they all use the same computer as me. I put a password on my account so my family cannot access it, especially the kids, but I can't remember the code. If anyone has a solution, thank you very much.
