Disable/Enable the touchpad Solved

Question

Hello everyone,

Recently, I have a MSI GE60 2OC-078XFR laptop that works fine, as long as I don't encounter the following problem: When I type text and accidentally brush against the touchpad, the ongoing typing gets inserted into the already written paragraph, resulting in unreadable gibberish.
I would like to be able to disable the touchpad while I am typing text. Since I use a mouse, this won't be an issue for me otherwise. Once the text is written, I would like to reactivate this touchpad.
If you have a proven solution, please let me know through this forum.

Hello everyone,

Finally, on the seller's advice, I went to the MSI website and on the page for my laptop: http://fr.msi.com/product/nb/GP60.html#download
and there, I successively selected Driver then Win 64; I chose to download "Elantech Multi Touchpad" and then installed the driver.

Positive outcome: If the USB mouse is plugged in, the touchpad is disabled and if the USB mouse is not plugged in, the touchpad is enabled. I can therefore write text without messing it up when my wrist brushes against the touchpad.

If we want to split hairs, there are two annoying details left:
1-In the control panel/Mouse Properties: ELAN, checking or unchecking the box for "Disable when USB mouse is plugged in" doesn't change anything: the mouse and touchpad are exclusive of each other anyway; which is not bothersome in itself.
2- The Fn+F3 keys still have no effect on the touchpad.

Conclusion: My problem is resolved thanks to the MSI website

Hello.Most of the time, the touchpad is activated and deactivated with the FN key for the number; it's up to you to check that.

I'm not sure about what I'm saying, but on my computer, in the top left corner of the touchpad, there's a small indentation that makes it so that as soon as I tap lightly on it, the touchpad is disabled!

Thank you for your responses. I printed the mini user manual for the MSI laptop in question and I did read that Fn + F3 allows you to disable or reactivate the touchpad. I tried it but it doesn't work: the touchpad continues to function.
Is there a command that I need to activate beforehand that I am unaware of for it to work?
If you know the solution, please send it to me.

Hello, I'm currently having the same issue: the touchpad has automatically disabled itself and I don't know how, and I can't get it to work again.
I used the keyboard shortcut Fn + F3 as indicated in the user manual and nothing happens.
Uninstalling and reinstalling the touchpad driver does nothing...
I don't know what else to do..... the PC is brand new (only about 1 month old).

In the control panel, you should be able to find a link to configure the mouse (and thus the touchpad => to enable or disable it).
If you want to use a KEYBOARD shortcut to enable/disable the touchpad, you should look towards the keyboard drivers: go to the manufacturer’s website of your computer (e.g., asus.com), and download a driver for your keyboard to then enable all keyboard shortcuts (hotkey in English).

I resolved the problem by downloading the "Elan Smart Pad" driver for the mouse that manages the mouse and the touchpad: When the USB mouse is connected, the touchpad is automatically disabled and when it is not connected, the touchpad is automatically enabled.

On HP, there's a small square in the top left of the Pad, but it's tricky because it's not very responsive, and Fn F7 doesn't work on Windows 8. Type several times :-)

Hello,
Thank you for the tips. I had disabled the touchpad at home 3 years ago, but today it was activated by itself.... Since I didn't remember the maneuver, I did Fn+F9 as suggested, and it worked for my Asus laptop running Windows 7. Thanks again for your good advice.
