Hello,
I would like to install Kubuntu 12.04 (KDE) on an old laptop (and remove Windows).
I have the setup on DVD, I can boot from it, but when I start it, the following message appears:
"This Kernel requires an x86-64 CPU, but only detected an i686 CPU.
Unable to boot - please use a kernel appropriate for your CPU"
I deduce that my machine is not recent enough to run this distribution.
Which one do you recommend I take, please?
Thank you
Pierrot
Configuration: Windows 7 / Chrome 31.0.1650.63

To add some details to Sam-Soul's response:
It's not about distribution or version number but about processor architecture.
All distributions are available for x86 (32-bit PC) and x86-64 (64-bit PC), you just need to use the disk image that is compatible with your hardware.

Hello,
I386 architecture..
https://www.debian.org/releases/wheezy/i386/
Debian is more stable than Ubuntu and its derivatives.
Forget KDE and Gnome, they're too heavy.
Xfce is suitable for your old machine.
