Winrar: the archive is damaged or its format is unknown

Hello, after a factory reset of my computer, I reinstalled the game The Sims 3, then WinRAR to put in mods. The only problem is that when I download one, I double-click on the package file and this message appears: "The archive is damaged or its format is unknown." I tried with other files than packages, same message... I uninstalled and reinstalled WinRAR: still the same... I didn't have this problem before, I'm using Windows XP.

    Could you provide us with the extension of the downloaded files?
