"Couldn't load XPCOM." Solved

Question

Hello,

When I try to open MOZILLA, I get the message "couldn't load XPCOM". I would like to uninstall MOZILLA and reinstall it to see if everything goes back to normal. But I can't uninstall the browser. Neither through the control panel in the uninstall programs, nor as MOZILLA recommends in case of failure at:
C/program files/mozilla firefox/uninstall/helper.exe

What should I do?

Hello, I find all of this very useful and clear, but when I need to look for the firefox.exe -p folder in C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\ OR C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\, I can't find the folder: firefox.exe -p !! But I do have a firefox folder that is used to launch firefox, but it gives me "load couldn't XPCOM"!! What should I do please?

Hello,

You can try to create a brand new profile:

Save bookmarks:

In JSON format:

Go to Bookmarks.
Click on "Show All Bookmarks."
Click on "Import and Backup."
Click on "Backup."
Save the file in a chosen location.

In HTML format:

Go to Bookmarks.
Click on "Show All Bookmarks."
Click on "Import and Backup."
Click on "Export as HTML"
Save the file in a chosen location.

Or by this method if Firefox does not start:

Click on the Start button of Windows and enter

%APPDATA%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\

in the search field at the bottom of the Start menu without pressing Enter.

A list of profiles appears at the top of the "Start" menu.

Click on any profile (e.g., xxxxxxxx.default) to open it with Windows Explorer.

Locate the bookmarkbackups folder and open it

Copy the JSON file (the most recent if there are multiple)

Paste it to the Desktop

Save your important data:

The files places.sqlite, key3.db, signons.sqlite, permissions.sqlite, etc.....

Delete the Firefox profile:

Close Firefox

Press Windows + R

In the "Run" field, type:

firefox.exe -p

Click on OK.

If the profile manager window does not appear, type:

For 32-bit Windows:

"C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" -p

Click on OK

For 64-bit Windows:

"C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" -p

Click on OK

In the profile manager, select the profile to delete

Click on Delete Profile....

/!\ The option Do not delete files removes the profile from the profile manager while keeping the profile data on your computer in the folder, so your information is preserved. “Do not delete files” is the preferred option because it does not erase the old profile folder and allows you to recover its files for a new profile. /!\

/!\ The option Delete files deletes the profile and its files, including bookmarks from the profile, settings, passwords... /!\

/!\ If you use the Delete files option, the profile folder and the files within it will be deleted. This action cannot be undone./!\

The Cancel option stops the profile deletion.

Close the windows.

Restart Firefox.

To restore bookmarks:

In JSON format:

Go to Bookmarks.
Click on "Show All Bookmarks."
Click on "Import and Backup."
Click on "Restore"
Click on "Choose File."
Select the backup JSON file created.
Confirm by OK.

In HTML format:

Go to Bookmarks.
Click on "Show All Bookmarks."
Click on "Import and Backup."
Click on "Import from HTML"
Select "from a file"
Select the backup HTML file created.
Confirm by OK.

Or by this method:

Go replace the JSON file located on the desktop in the bookmarkbackups folder of the new profile created by Firefox.

To recover your important data:

Go replace the various saved files in the new profile created by Firefox.

Click on the Start button of Windows and enter

%APPDATA%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\

in the search field at the bottom of the Start menu without pressing Enter.

A list of profiles appears at the top of the "Start" menu.

Open the relevant profile

Restart Firefox.

Hi

Skeptical about all the methods proposed online and here, I downloaded Firefox (with IE or another PC) and then I overwrote the already installed Firefox.
I didn't get any error messages and Firefox opened by itself at the end of the installation... I closed it, reopened it and everything works again.
