Hello, my name is Guillaume, I’m 17 years old and during the holidays I’d like to get into party entertainment (weddings, birthdays, baptisms, etc.) but I don’t know where to start!

I already own the equipment (sound system, stands, lighting effects) and I’d like to know the steps to begin my animations (registration, SACEM, others...) because I don’t understand any of it at all.

    In short, you pay a fixed fee based on the duration and the estimated number of attendees.

    Ideally you should create a company to pay your taxes, but there is a tolerance for launching (you can already host parties without forming the company), as long as you don’t earn too much money...

    What does it mean to create a company? To be registered? If I earn around 300 euros, would that be possible?

    If your animations stay within a relatively private frame, I think you don’t really need to declare yourself.

    Even if you animate a bar, for example, it’s up to the bar owner to make the declarations.

    Anyway, in practice, that’s how it works...

    When you talk about a relatively private setting, is it like family? because what I’d like to do is host events like weddings, birthdays, all that stuff with people I don’t know.

      As you’re just starting out, don’t worry too much about formalities. Launch yourself and if it works you’ll figure it out in due time...

    I’m not really sure how it works for weddings, but for a birthday it should pass without too many issues.

    If you really want to be on the safe side you can make your declaration to SACEM, but well...

      Well, let's be clear ^^

      In theory you are obliged to:
      - declare your evening to SACEM
      - bill your client (and thus have a company to issue the invoice and thus also declare this income to the tax authorities even if you won't be taxed on it) 

      In real life:

      - SACEM is rather lenient for the kid who throws a party in their garage or if you play few gigs (watch out for unexpected checks, that said, but since there must be 50 inspectors for all of France the risk is low). The obligation to declare remains valid, that said.
      - the tax authorities won't pay attention to you: too small for the moment. As soon as your activity takes off you'll have an interest in forming a company (even if only to be able to deduct expenses)

      An association can be enough, but you’d need to be several people and have the profits (in theory) fund the association’s expenses.

      Otherwise you might look into the auto-entrepreneur status if you earn a lot, it’s more flexible than a company, especially if you’re alone, or an intermittent of the show industry...

      but at first don’t worry about that, it’s not worth it...

      Anyway, as long as you don’t get paid several thousand euros, you’re not going to scare the authorities, so don’t worry…
