Straighten slightly tilted PDFs

Personally, I do this kind of thing quite often for work, but for that, I use Pitstop...

OCR software is a bit particular... Indeed, there is a tolerance for slant, but if the line is too slanted to the point that its start is higher than its end (or vice versa), it won't work anymore. The OCR uses two methods to convert: the shape of the character + a dictionary. The shape is analyzed and compared to an internal database, the letters are assembled and compared to a dictionary... and that forms the word.

Okay, I've already taken a look at Pitstop, but I admit that the phrase "starting from €699" discouraged me from reading further.

For professional use, this software is great, but for your request, it is indeed too much.

Try using Acrobat "Reader":

Menu "edit / Copy the file to clipboard"
Then paste it into an image editing software (Paint, Gimp, Photoshop, etc.). There you can apply a slight rotation to it (although in Paint, the rotation is not precise and it doesn't exist on MAC)...

All you have to do then is print it again as a PDF via PDFCreator, for example.

A scan is an image... the PDF format is the envelope of your image file. The goal is to extract the image.

I tried using a horizon straightener (after all, a score is largely made up of horizontal lines). But I didn't get anything conclusive (on the contrary, the software puts the scores completely diagonally. The result is worse)

Otherwise, there is Picasa which allows you to open the images one after another and process them quickly (for the bulk).

Of course, all this after converting the PDFs to JPEG.

I'm asking all this because I put all my scores on iPad and I need to crop the margins that are of no use and greatly reduce readability since the iPad is a bit small for this type of use (by the way, I'm also looking for an "automatic cropper" ;) ).

if you have Photoshop 'file / automation / crop and straighten photos'.
You open your batch of photos, it processes them in bulk.
It should be available on Photoshop Elements too, but I don't know if it processes a batch.
Of course, you will need to convert all your images from a PDF to JPG (or another less destructive format) beforehand; you can easily find this on Google.

If you think you can get it done quickly, you can always download the trial versions of the Acrobat "Pro" and Pitstop software...

However, you will need to set aside a period because their use is time-limited...

Now, it might not be necessary to redo the PDFs... since copying/pasting from Acrobat Reader to Gimp (which is available on MAC, free, and more efficient than Picassa) should be possible (I don't use a MAC in production, so I can't verify), you can crop and clean up your scans and keep JPGs that should be easily viewable on an iPad....

I don't know if there are any simple, free solutions...

With professional software, you can do this with Acrobat "Pro" by clicking on the scanned image in the PDF with the image editing tool so that it opens in an image editing software (which can be free software). Then "Command S" to automatically save it back into the PDF file.

More quickly and without deterioration of the quality (since we change the inclination of the image, without touching the encapsulation), this can be done with "Pitstop" (but it's a plugin for Acrobat "Pro") and it's scriptable, so almost automatic although I'm skeptical about the interest since the images shouldn't all have the same rotation angle...
